MLB 2019: Mad Max Beyond Astrodome

Gerrit Cole had a great game 5. Cue the Cubs gearing up to give him a 7 year contract based on one post-season game.

Cole had a league-best 185 ERA+ this year, which is basically peak Randy Johnson / Pedro Martinez levels. His 144 ERA+ last year wasn't too shabby, either. Once he went to a team that stopped insisting that he throw his sinker all the damn time, he blew up and turned on God mode.

I'm really hoping the Astro's get one more world series win before they're broken apart in free agency.

The issue is that Crane, despite bathing in cash, is insistent that the Astros will not breach the luxury tax threshold.

Once again, it's the owners using the luxury tax as a soft salary cap.

The Dodgers say that Roberts will return as manager next season. That leaves, by my count, eight vacancies: Cubs, Phillies (though that's almost certainly Manuel's), Angels (that's going to Maddon), Mets, Giants, Pirates, Royals and Padres?
The rumor mill has the Phillies talking to Girardi and Showalter.

Greg Maddux had ERA+ above 250 two seasons in a row. He also had half a dozen seasons with 200+ innings in which his walk totals were in the 20's for a whole season - not to mention four straight Cy Young awards. Maybe the most underrated pitcher of all time.

To me, Maddux is the best pitcher of all time.

Anibal Sánchez pitched a no-no through 7.2 innings and lost it to pitch hitter José Martínez.

It is obvious that the Astro's are the choice of our alien masters. Everyone would be wise to support them.
