Miscast Starships - Discussion

...Unless someone like Dave Blass is on the job. For what he had to work with, I think he did a fine job filling out the fleet in Picard S2/S3.
Captain Harry Kim's ship was supposed to be a new design, only based on the Nova class, designed by Tim Earls: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GxgZ9YwWwAA8OZM.jpg

That's pretty cool, but it was a clear early decision to re-use the Nova based on the MSD on the RI's bridge. Strangely, despite being a "future" timeline, the future was strangely bereft of newer designs - the RI and the Klingon ships were modifications of existing assets, with the future shuttle, Borg transwarp hub and I suppose the "Batmobile" version of Voyager being the "ground-up" models made for the finale. Point being that there really wasn't a definitive design from the Endgame future that screamed THIS IS THE FUTURE except for the shuttle, I guess.

And on the subject of the Rotarran: I feel that they should have built a new Klingon filming model for Martok's command ship instead of just using a BoP. That way it would be differentiated from the rest of the generic BoP/K't'Inga/Vorcha Klingon fleet, since they weren't going to give him back the Negh'var.

I agree, though there's something about the Rotarran being a scrappy underdog sorta ship and accordingly being an older, known class. I saw her as being the same class as the Pagh from "A Matter of Honor", with a crew count in the 40-50 range (conjecturally) and firepower to be able to take on Jem'Hadar attach ships without much problem, as was amply shown.

Incidentally, later on in the war, Martok and co. took command of a "new flagship", the Ch'Tang, which was... the same old BoP we know and love. He's then BACK to the Rotarran without explanation before the end of the show. The Ch'Tang and her sister ships would have been a good justification for a new model, which we know the Klingons (and Romulans) sorely needed.
