Misc. Avatar Contest ~ The Four Elements

Up close and personal is how I see it -"backyard" is perfect actually.

ETA:
Oh, and speaking of symbolism; I like your (as I put it) up close and personal take on the subject matter :bolian:
I tend to intellectualize a lot too much in the art of avatar making -your entry proves that a more -if I may say so- down to earth approach carries it's own merit!

I really appreciate the kind words. I usually don't spend much time on these things!

Thanks! :)

I don't think yours is too intellectual. The five elements is such a profound topic to begin with, that it seems natural to use symbols and colors with a lot of meaning. It's perfectly appropriate!

It is my experience that over-thinking and excessive tweaking of an avatar can make the project totally useless -but sometimes the idea is just too good to scrap, and then I end up with something that is over-intellectualized and way beyond my technical skill :(
Other times it just works -and then I win :p

Allright, I didn't watch the film that was on because I got into this avtar-making business :rommie:

So I Now have the one I'd like to enter into this iteration of the Misc. avatar contest, same context as before:

* Wood (Chinese: 木, pinyin: mù)
* Fire (Chinese: 火, pinyin: huǒ)
* Earth (Chinese: 土, pinyin: tǔ)
* Metal (Chinese: 金, pinyin: jīn)
* Water (Chinese: 水, pinyin: shuǐ)

Even if the western idea of 'elements' isn't perfectly correct when referring to Wu Xing, a better translation would be: phases/stages/steps, I believe to have solved this task within the parameters of the contest by creating this:

(should I delete the previously linked-to avatar or is it OK if this post holds the only copy of my actual entry?)

trampledamage is your name a reference to Magic?

I've been wondering the same thing.

Or perhaps what War Elephants and Cataphracts do? :techman:

Yeah, it's from Magic the Gathering - I used to play a lot way back when it first came out. And I like elephants :)

Wait, does your username read "Trample Damage" or "Trampled a Mage", because, um, I've been pronouncing it exactly as what you'll be telling me. :shifty:

Ooh, my first avatar contest ever! :bolian:

Everyone's avatars look so good already!

I chose Earth:

pinemartenavatar.jpg

That is the cutest thing i've ever seen.

Thank you. It is an American Pine Marten and it is one of my favorite animals. Martens are in the same family as weasels but are much cuter and more vicious. They are basically the USS Defiant of Family Mustelidae.

What you [possibly] cannot see from the photo is that its nose is covered with pollen from rustling through a flower patch in Sequoia National Forest!

Ohhh, cool! I wasn't sure whether it was Magic or maybe Age of Empires.
