I really appreciate the kind words. I usually don't spend much time on these things!
Thanks!
I don't think yours is
too intellectual. The five elements is such a profound topic to begin with, that it seems natural to use symbols and colors with a lot of meaning. It's perfectly appropriate!
It is my experience that over-thinking and excessive tweaking of an avatar can make the project totally useless -but sometimes the idea is just too good to scrap, and then I end up with something that is
over-intellectualized and way beyond my technical skill

Other times it just works -and then I win
Allright, I didn't watch the film that was on because I got into this avtar-making business
So I Now have the one I'd like to enter into this iteration of the Misc. avatar contest, same context as before:
* Wood (Chinese: 木, pinyin: mù)
* Fire (Chinese: 火, pinyin: huǒ)
* Earth (Chinese: 土, pinyin: tǔ)
* Metal (Chinese: 金, pinyin: jīn)
* Water (Chinese: 水, pinyin: shuǐ)
Even if the western idea of 'elements' isn't perfectly correct when referring to Wu Xing, a better translation would be: phases/stages/steps, I believe to have solved this task within the parameters of the contest by creating this:
(should I delete the previously linked-to avatar or is it OK if this post holds the only copy of my
actual entry?)
