So, only a few days left till the ninth month begins, and with it several Observances, like Labour Day (USA, Canada, Palau), Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (UK), Father's Day (Australia, NZ, Fiji, PNG, also Ukraine and Latvia on a different date), as well as, weirdly, Oktoberfest (Germany). You can check Wikipedia for a long, though undoubtedly incomplete, list.
Now, pick one of these Observances and depict it as an avatar.

As usual, entries may not exceed 200x200 pixels and/or 1 Mb data. Also, no media, and obviously keep it SFW.

Let's give it two entries per user. And no worry, the poll won't go up until September. ;)

Thank you kindly Kai "the spy"!

My entry is for The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary oopsies I'm editing mine, I'm totally discombobulated, I also have an avatar for National Yoga Month.

There was actually a lot more on that Wikipedia page then I was expecting. So here's my first one:

september_observances_av.jpg

- Day of the Programmer - Sep 13 (non-leap years), Sep 12 (leap years)
(Although I'm not sure why it says it's international, but then also says it is only observed in Russia...)

And the next one wasn't on the Wikipedia page for some odd reason, but it is a very important observance:

- Star Trek Day - Sep 8

Well, *I* observe it, anyway... :alienblush:

(Hopefully this image is BTS enough to qualify as non-media, but if not, let me know, and I'll see what else I can come up with.)

My entry is for The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (oopsies, edited after I saw you changed it from two to one, sorry!)

I changed what?!
Does my birthday count?

Speaking as another September Child, no. :p I was tempted, though.

To say it in the immortal words of the referee from Celebrity Death Match, I'll allow it.

Avast, me heartie! You have 2 entries this time. Harrrr! :D

It was a tough choice - translation day (Sept 30est) is something many board members have to deal with on a daily basis, bisexuality day would also have been a tempting topic. In the end I decided to go for something typically German and something typical for Japan, a country from where we have only few board members.

Today is the German day of the zebra crossing. Lately, they've been experimenting with 3D looking ones which apparently make even reckless drivers hit the brakes

And on September 9th the Japanese celebrate Kikku no seku, the chrysanthemum festival. Imo a very nice way to start the cold-ish season.

yes, the angle matters: it works only from the street, not if seen sideways. But even if people use it the illusion still works.
I found a clip from a trial run in Linz in Austria:

Better hurry up now. I've already waited a day more than originally planned. I'll start the poll in 24 hours, so you better get your entries in till then.

Cheers, I wouldn't have blamed you if you had gone ahead, I had clean forgot. - it's been one of those weeks.

First entry, some German drinking thing:

As for my second, this was held in September, till this year, but now held in August for some unknown reason, the GAA All Ireland Hurling final:

(As it's taken from a broadcast media source (via Google) I'll understand if you say no to this.)
