Thanks to everyone who voted for me! I'm glad I didn't scare you all away ;)

This one's in honour of the Olympics and the countries participating in the Olympics. The idea is to select a symbol or icon that you feel represents your country, something that can easily be recognized as being from your country. It can be a person, it can be a building, or it can be an object, or something that your country is simply famous for. But flags will be out as that would be too easy. Essentially, something you could look at and say, "Hey, this belongs to such and such a country..."

Regular rules apply. 150x150. I will allow TV & Media, as I feel that sometimes that can be very representative of a country.

In honour of my Grandfather who was a Mounted Police, I select the Canadian Mountie.

Kidding. He was Austrian.

I couldn't decide, so I made a compilation.

Although, a compilation of people is another possibility.

Who are the cartoon characters? Are they anything like the Katzenjammer Kids?

Uhm, ... yes?! Those are Max and Moritz, the two most popular characters of German cartoonist Wilhelm Busch, known in Germany as the grandfather of comics. Max and Moritz were the inspiration for the Katzenjammer Kids.

Wikipedia| Max and Moritz

I'll have to look for these two. I hadn't come across them at school. Unfortunately, my university took German literature so dreadfully serious that popular culture got almost entirely overlooked. It would have made the study much more fun to have gotten more stuff like that than we did.

Nice theme. I have a couple of ideas I can work on when I get back to my own computer.

Hmm... I've decided I'm gonna go with people, but I can't make up my mind between these two gentleman:

This esteemed and classy gentleman and a scholar (although he is sorta half American, but still):

And this funny and likeable, and more in the spirit of the Olympics, and currently rather well known, sportsman:

So I'm gonna go with both. :p Both brains and brawn, win-win.

hmm, we actually already solved that question for my country, in 1972:

(and since it has already officially been done, I request that this one oughtn't count in the ongoing competition. I'll try to come up with a better one and posted this pic just for your info and amusement and to perhaps trigger a few fond memories)

Well, I've taken out the oil well and switched from Lonestar to Bud, to make it more generally American, rather than Texan.

So, how's this for the stereotypical view of America?

It's awesome :)
Maybe you should insert a fake/Hollywood Native American as well. That's what many foreigners (esp. kids) associate with America. On the other hand, the cowboy hat propably already covers that anyway

^Yeah, I thought about putting a cow in there, but the hat seems to cover a multitude of stereotypes.

You'd be surprised how often, when people find out where I live, I hear the question, "Do you have a horse? Do you live on a ranch? Is there an oil well nearby?"

UM...no. The fourth largest city in the country is, in fact, a CITY. There aren't horse-riding cowboys, oil wells and vast, sweeping ranches. There are, however, vast stretches of ugly strip malls, a horrendous tangle of freeways, and an endless sprawl of suburban neighborhoods.

You know, like every other flippin' city in America.

It's always funny-- and a bit disturbing-- to see how other countries see America. I suppose it's no worse than how most Americans see other countries. :rommie:

Anyway, here's mine:

That's my America. :)
