Mirror says New Console Room for Smith

One of RTD's rules for the series was that the Doctor and his Companion couldn't be shown sleeping or eating in the TARDIS. They do those things in the places they visit instead.

I figured as much and was expecting this reply at some point. I just don't see the Doctor being as attached to the Tardis if he is, in effect, just beaming to other places. No moreso than the Trek crew was attached to the Transporter Room. Why should they? It was just a mechanism that moved them from point A to point B.....and this is sort of the logic employed by RTD.

They did travel to the year 5 billion in less than two minutes. So he's basically saying that there's no distance, spatial or temporal, that can't be gotten to instantly, and there's really no reason to be in the Tardis longer than the time it takes to walk in, set the controls and materialize.

Like the transporter.

And again, there's no reason for the Doctor to be as emotionally attached to the Tardis if that were the case. So all the cool "Doctor talking to the Tardis" bits can only happen because of the Classic Who Tardis moments you and RTD didn't like. The classic Who's lived in the Tardis.....the new Who's don't, and spend as much time in there as you and I do in the can taking a dump.

Maybe they should change the Tardis exterior to a Port-A-Can.

You know, I think you're exaggerating. I'm not aware of any indication from RTD that he didn't like TARDIS-based stories. The sense I get was just that he made a creative decision that each episode would have an adventure outside of the TARDIS as much as possible. That's very different. And the show has made it clear that the Doctor cares about the TARDIS very much.

I don't know how big the Tardis is on the inside,

I would imagine that it's the size of Belgium. ;)

I hope they don't just paint the coral dome white

Here's one Tardis design I stumbled upon

this one I could live with though the roof design wouldn't be out of place on the U.S.S Enterprise.

and hope they come up with something different for the console room - I
've never liked the current design and wasn't rapt with the 8th Doctor's console room either - guess steam punk doesn't really do it for me.

I hope they do it like is suggested in Time Crash

It'd be fun to see it happen as he changes it, flipping thru several before settling on one, including some of the classics from the distant past and discarded new ideas.

It'd be like a reprise of that scene in The Christmas Invasion where the Doctor was going thru his Wardrobe and you can see all the outfits all the Doctors have ever worn.

Too much for the budget - but I like the look of that design. Probably because it reminds me of the TV movie and looks a little more 'magical'
I liked the look better than Giles & the Scooby Gang were in it.

Ahem.

There is only one "Scooby Gang", my friend. And that is the "Scooby Gang".

You are talking about something Joss Whedon created. Please don't insult such a classic institution as Scooby-Doo with a crass, pop-culture absurdity like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. To do so again will nullify The Treaty of Paris. And I will pee in your tea.

not so according to the Shadow Proclamation, law 52 subsection 5, the Buffy Scooby Gang is recognised in galactic law as "the" Scooby Gang.

to be fair that rule was hotly debated at the time, but the ambassador from a planet to Whedon fans, threatened to boycott if they didnt get there way.

Also its a well known fact that the President of Shadow Proclamation, thinks Scooby Doo is rubbish and I agree with him.

Didn't RTD base Who on Buffy?

I do agree though, there is only one proper Scooby gang...then there's the knock off Scooby gang...

I hear talk in Who fandom he also based it on a long running British sci-fi show called Doctor Who as well, but maybe that is just crazy talk.

Really? Are you sure? That Dr Who series had Timelords in it, and alien planets, and Cybermen who sai "Excellent" not "Delete", and there was no kissing!! Surely it can't be the same show

as I said its just a crazy theory some old school Doctor Who fans have.

;)

My wife loves Buffy. It keeps me up some nights wondering why I married her...

I hope not. Among the lowest points in the original series were all those interminable TARDIS scenes towars the end of Baker I's time and especially into Davison's time.

However, keep in mind that this isn't those days..the writing, budget and FX are all superior. And such an ep., as penned by Moffet, would be brilliant.
Nor would showing the inside of the Tardis for an episode hurt anything.
As much as I love NuWho, certain story elements have become a bit stale and it's time for a shake up and something different.

One bottle episode isn't going to kill anyone, it would be different and fresh, and probably a bit of a mind fuck as well. I don't know how big the Tardis is on the inside, I just know it's much bigger than the new show has shown or told us. For the NuWho fan who's never watched the Classic stuff, the Tardis is the Console Room and that place where all the clothes are.

Wouldn't hurt to give them an idea of what's in the Tardis.[/quote]

I completely agree. With todays FX a mysterious room could be a incredible sight . With Moffet's abilities, he could easily write a script that would capture the imagination. The world of Trek used the holodeck many times. With that being said, I think that a well written episode based in the TARDIS is overdue.

The transdimentional attributes of the TARDIS could easily allow for a episode that could feature some type of room or "space" that has never been mentioned in the classic or new series. I would like to see something similar to "The Edge of Destruction" but even darker. Since the TARDIS and the Doctor are connected, maybe there could be some type of room or space that specifically processes all of the Doctor's darkest most thoughts and experiances. This area could be so dark that the Doctor himself would not enter the area eagerly on his own accord. Given the Doctor's instability after recently regenerating, a episode like this would fit in perfect at a time like this

Just a thought...
