Mirror says New Console Room for Smith

Well I shall reserved being pleased till I see it- doubt it will ba an abomination but you never know...

At the moment we don't know if it will be a radical overhaul to a return to white roundels or to the 8th Doctor's gothic cathedral look, or else if it will look exactly the same, only slightly newer!

The same but different would be a weird choice if they really do want to distinguish themselves, but I'm interested to see what they do.

New set. Should be black. Blacker than death. Like the cold, still beating heart of the BBC. Paint the soundstage with foul tar the corporation calls blood.

License fee. Extortion. Swearing at Andrew Sachs. Damn them.

Given that the "distinguish themselves from RTD" comment came from our old friend Mr Unnamed Source I wouldn't put any weight on it.

The series had to go HD in 2010 because that's the date the BBC set for their shows to become HD ready, so there was going to be a new set reagrdless of who was in charge.

I wasn't really putting any credence to that quote really, I was just saying if that's what they were doing, then it'd be a weird choice.

There certainly is a fair amount of debate, rejoicing, and apprehension for something that's not a confirmed certainty. I am of the mind that all they are doing is "tightening" the current look for an HD filming process. I would love to be wrong. But, I see the dual hand of marketing's plague entering into the process, ultimately nullifying it of any artistic or creative merit (the other side of the duality being that they want a completely different interior so as to be able to market a new toy/look). Nothing is ever done on television that is not primarily schemed to benefit the bottom line of the marketing department. That, my friends, is a certainty of corporate/commercial life....

One of RTD's rules for the series was that the Doctor and his Companion couldn't be shown sleeping or eating in the TARDIS. They do those things in the places they visit instead.

I figured as much and was expecting this reply at some point. I just don't see the Doctor being as attached to the Tardis if he is, in effect, just beaming to other places. No moreso than the Trek crew was attached to the Transporter Room. Why should they? It was just a mechanism that moved them from point A to point B.....and this is sort of the logic employed by RTD.

They did travel to the year 5 billion in less than two minutes. So he's basically saying that there's no distance, spatial or temporal, that can't be gotten to instantly, and there's really no reason to be in the Tardis longer than the time it takes to walk in, set the controls and materialize.

Like the transporter.

And again, there's no reason for the Doctor to be as emotionally attached to the Tardis if that were the case. So all the cool "Doctor talking to the Tardis" bits can only happen because of the Classic Who Tardis moments you and RTD didn't like. The classic Who's lived in the Tardis.....the new Who's don't, and spend as much time in there as you and I do in the can taking a dump.

Maybe they should change the Tardis exterior to a Port-A-Can.

I hope not. Among the lowest points in the original series were all those interminable TARDIS scenes towars the end of Baker I's time and especially into Davison's time.

However, keep in mind that this isn't those days..the writing, budget and FX are all superior. And such an ep., as penned by Moffet, would be brilliant.
Nor would showing the inside of the Tardis for an episode hurt anything.
As much as I love NuWho, certain story elements have become a bit stale and it's time for a shake up and something different.

One bottle episode isn't going to kill anyone, it would be different and fresh, and probably a bit of a mind fuck as well. I don't know how big the Tardis is on the inside, I just know it's much bigger than the new show has shown or told us. For the NuWho fan who's never watched the Classic stuff, the Tardis is the Console Room and that place where all the clothes are.

Wouldn't hurt to give them an idea of what's in the Tardis.

^I still think it'd be hilarious if they found a classic Cyberman who'd been wandering around the TARDIS for 300 years or so

You can be sure that if the Trek producers were in charge of DW, we would have gotten 10 or 20 bottle episodes by now. lol :D

That would be awesome! :guffaw:
lets be honest, they could do that as a mini episode sometime
That would be wicked.

Fine by me. Like others here, I want to see more of inside of the TARDIS. I love The Invasion of Time because we get to see so much of it (and I don't give a rat's ass if it had concrete walls!).
