Minor Computer Issues

I looked it up and I did all that. I'm still not sure about deleting it though- I can't get it back, and I may have done something incorrectly. If I can I'd prefer just to move a couple of gigs across to C. The tool for it keeps freezing when I open it though. :(

It's a file that is meaningless on reboot, it's just paging memory to your hard disk, so there's not much to lose. Also, if it's in use, the file will be locked by the operating system and it will tell you to go fuck yourself when you click delete. So I say if you moved your page file settings, delete the leftover file, and clear your recycle bin for good measure.

I still don't want to do that... I don't know what may happen. Still, thanks anyways. :)

However, I found a tool to resize partitions. I found out that I had a third drive called "Recovery" and that had a bit of free space (About 2GB - 5.5GB in size) I transferred about 400MB to disk C from there, and now everything's acting nicely again- including Media player and flash on chrome! :D
I tried to transfer from H, but it wasn't compatible for some reason. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this means that the problem's solved- for now at least. :)

Thanks to everyone for the advice and help- especially RM! :techman:

Btw. I much prefer VLC to the Windows Media Player. I'm not sure how much ressources it needs compared to WMP (I think you'll need one of the older versions for XP though), but its interface and compatibility is infinitely better.

I recently bought an iPod, so I'm already planning to go over to iTunes. I still need to convert all the mwa files, but that's just time. When I can be bothered I'll do it.
I do have VLC somewhere- or I did. I don't know where it's gone. Still, WMP works fine for me.

It is perfectly safe to delete your pagefile as long as Windows lets you delete it. It's either in one of two states:

1. In use, so you won't be able to delete it (Windows will report this and nothing bad will happen.)
2. No longer relevant (because you're paging to another drive/partition), so it's safe to delete.

Either way, you cannot possibly hurt anything by attempting to remove it. Just leaving it there is wasted space.

Well I have enough space for it now. All it does is give me a warning if I try to delete it, so that's not so good- I'll just leave it for now. I can only actually see it using WinDirStat anyway. Besides, I don't use that space on C for anything else- I really don't store anything there at all. I only needed free space because it was slowing everything down/preventing them from working. As long as it doesn't expand I see no benefit to deleting it.

It gives you a warning because it's a system file. It is still safe to delete. If it's not safe to delete, Windows simply won't let you.

Well, the entire operating system crashed when I shut the computer down- which is why I wasn't on yesterday. I've now installed vista (I had a disk and was planning to upgrade soon anyway) and it seems to be running smoothly- AND bonus, I kept all my files even though they were backed up anyways. Really glad it worked though.

And the Windows Update issue I had earlier was apparently a problem on Microsoft's end which was eventually fixed. The issue was that there were 3 patches that kept popping up even after seemingly being installed. Worse yet, the patches were older patches that shouldn't have been on there. It was a confirmed problem on their end.
