And of course, my problems were due to not having patched the game using MCPatch. Yeah, duh!
After I realized that, I kicked myself.

That could have something to do with the new animal spawning rules, the ones designed to stop them spawning around torches at night. I can't say that I've noticed fewer animals about, but I haven't gone searching for any either.1.6.6 is working with a few minor issues for me. For one, animals are spawning much less frequently--I had to play for a good half an hour before I saw even a solitary cow.
I haven't experienced this either, but that's because my rail line doesn't touch any corners as they seem to impact the cart's momentum.Collision detection when riding carts has also been screwed up. I get hurt when rounding corners where the tunnel is only one block wide.
I have some bad news for you.Oh dear lord. This is the third time this week I've had to reinstall all my textures. This better be the last #$%@! update til 1.7!
Someone realised that clay is screwed up in 1.6 and that it can only spawn where the x and z coordinates are the same, which makes the conditions for an already rare resource almost impossible to fulfil. Notch is toying with the idea of releasing 1.6.7 tomorrow to fix that one issue, otherwise it wont be fixed for a long time.Good luck! I went there the other day to download a texture-pack and found the most childish dispute I've ever seen on the internet.Anyway, I'm donning my flameproof armor and wading into the Minecraft Forum to check the nerd rage levels. Wish me luck.
That site is like an internet version of The Lord of the Flies, but with no hope of rescue.
Or is that what you meant?Yeah whatever. Hopefully he can help Notch squash a few of these damn bugs.

Shears have 4 uses, according to Jeb. They shear sheep (and destroy wool blocks faster), they cut leaves (possibly meaning we can collect and plant leaf blocks), they diffuse TNT and there's a fourth use that he says is a secret.
