Minecraft

Holy hell, dragons would be even more heinous griefers than creepers and endermen combined! Although a dragon under your control would be a very effective way to level mountains!

Sure looks that way. Sucker cut a tunnel straight through.

I think it's safe to say dragons are one mob we won't have in our zoo, as there's probably no safe way to contain them.

Haha yeah, you're probably right. Unless some details come out regarding ways to contain them. Speaking of large things, It'd be fun being able to craft jumbo snowmen, just to watch them terrorize aggressive mobs. A bit like Minecraft's version of Staypuft. Imagine a giant snowman peering over a building you've built.

Btw Robert, any idea what's up with the server? Forum's been down for awhile.

I do think it would be cool if they put some giant mobs into the game, as long as they don't just destroy everything they touch.

Wow, I can just hear the complainers over on the official forum losing their minds over this. :) Nice animation though. Props to Notch!

Hey Robert, are we using a Bukkit plugin that buffs the healing properties of food? I've noticed on the server that eating a slice of melon heals 4-5 hearts now. Just wondering.

I'm using default settings. I have no mods in place that touch food at all. It might be an overall server difficulty setting, but if so it's using the default value as I haven't changed anything like that.

I did notice that we can't die of starvation on the server. Maybe that's due to the inventory saving mod? Dunno, but I do like it that way.

You don't die of starvation, however your health drops down to half.

It must be a difficulty setting. I can ramp it up if you guys prefer. :p

Surely now, you're joking... ;)

And yes, I know your name isn't Shirley. :p

Btw, since the forum server is down, I'll post it here.

Yesterday, Spock and I found a Stronghold. You can't unfortunately see much in this shot as it's a bit dark, but there's quite an elaborate abandoned mineshaft. You kind of feel like Indiana Jones when finding these.

And earlier on, we found a huge ravine. The ravine then lead on to the Stronghold:

Y'know I never could find the stronghold down there. Are we thinking about the same thing?

Stronghold = Underground castle with doors, iron bars, silverfish and special blocks.

That is a pretty epic ravine though.

Maybe, though I do count abandoned mines to be in the same category. I think it's simply a variation in style. Either that or strongholds are another variation on the dungeon.

Yeah, there are several things that came in 1.8 but they're all distinct:

* Ravines, which cut through the landscape.
* NPC villages (currently lacking NPCs.)
* Abandoned mineshafts (where you find cave spiders.)
* Strongholds (underground castles with silverfish and whatnot.)

I believe some of them are usually found close to each other but they are not by any means the same thing.

Strongholds have iron doors and their walls are made of stone brick, so that's what easily sets them apart.

Ok, you can see I haven't played 1.8 very much

Interestingly, we haven't encountered any cave spiders yet in the mineshaft.

I just find it really cool to find a cave, leading to a ravine, leading to a mineshaft.

To me, strongholds include both mine shafts and the kind you mentioned, Cutter John. Isn't there only supposed to be three stronghold per worldgen?

EDIT: Ninja'd by Robert.
