Minecraft

Hey everyone.

I have been a member of the Trek BBS since 2001 or so, but I have been a lurker for the past few years. I read this entire thread and got into Minecraft mainly from reading your posts.

I played on a server with a work friend, but we don't play anymore. In that world, my favorite build was a giant TARDIS that is a hollowed out casino on the inside. It has a pool on the top floor, so at night the windows of the TARDIS are lit by the water and glass. It has guest rooms, casino stuff and I took a redstone slot machine design from the web and customized it and inserted it into my TARDIS.

I did cheat in building the TARDIS in that I used a program that would create an object from a blueprint file...however it created a completely solid TARDIS, so it did take me weeks, maybe a month, just to hollow it out. And then to build the casino, which is lit entirely with glowstone, no torches.

Here is a photo gallery, approaching from the water level mine ride, to the first floor and exploring the inside. I particularly like the night shots of the exterior at night, near the end of the gallery.

Thanks for looking! Although y'all probably don't know me, remember that I have been lurking this whole time!

Thanks

My problem is that my favourite texture pack has a dead link, so I'm waiting for them to fix it. With the time it's taking though, it might not get fixed until the next update. So, that's my reason for not being on lately. That and I've been busier in general.

Personally, I'm at a loss for what to do next. And with the interactive map dead, I can't see where anyone has built anything new to go and check out. With such a large map, it's would be difficult if not impossible to find anything without it.

^ Gotta love lag.

As far as Obsidian goes, I just gave up mining the stuff. If I need it, I'll just build a frame, fill it with lava, and pour a bucket of water over the top.

I found a large underground sea of lava, poured water over all of it, harvested around 150 Obsidian all at once so I don't have to do it all later.

I'd bring back the dynamic map if we had a dedicated server. As it is, if I turned it on now it would just crash all the time for lack of memory.

While I liked the dynamic map, I wouldn't mind just a daily or weekly rendered image or set of images. The ones you have linked in the thread on your forum are severely out of date.

I used to do that, although automating it was problematic because of the amount of memory it consumes. I'll see what I can figure out.

I haven't played the game in months and realised yesterday that I haven't actually explored any new overworld terrain in my SP world since beta 1.8, meaning I'm missing a bunch of useful new materials. So I hacked my save to have large biomes and set out on an epic quest to find the missing materials and bring them back to my village. The very first thing I found, literally right next to the chunk boundary, was a jungle temple. Pretty neat, I thought.

With the most recent snapshot (13w05a), any idea what the point of having 8 different heights of snow per block is? Of all the things that people have asked for as a feature, I can't say I've ever heard of this one.

People have been asking to be able to craft single snow layers though. This just seems like a small extension of that.

Probably just to make the snow behavior a bit more "realistic." But then one wonders why you can't have multiple layers of dirt, too. And stone, and gravel, and sand, and...
