18-year-old Millie Gibson has landed the role of Ruby Sunday, the Doctor's new companion. https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-features/millie-gibson-is-the-new-doctor-who-companion-ruby-sunday
Is that like Ruby Tuesday, but two days early? So from a blonde actress named Billie playing a companion called Rose to a blonde actress named Millie playing a companion called Ruby. Is the Doctor stuck in a time loop again?
Looks like @Rich Watson was on the right tracks in the other thread with the Ruby prediction but he suggested an actress with that name rather than character. Corrie is the one soap I can tolerate and she was pretty good in it. The long crossover history of DW actors and soaps continues.
We're at the point where companion actors aren't even children of the Wilderness Years anymore, they're children of the revival, and the Doctor is a child of the Wilderness Years. I'm not familiar with her work but I'm excited to see her and Ncuti in action.
I've never heard of her, though looking over the report it seems the actress is 18 years old. Too lazy to look, but is she the youngest person to play a companion?
Off the top of my head, she just might be. Deborah Watling, Matthew Waterhouse and Sarah Sutton were in that age range so if Millie is the youngest, it's by a year or two.
Matthew Waterhouse was also 18 when he started as Adric. I don't know if that that's the youngest or not.
Never heard of her but I'm excited to see what she brings to the show. Aside from Matt Lucas and Bradley Walsh, I hadn't heard of any of actors until they became companions (Billie Piper and Catherine Tate included) and I think it's probably better that way, to have a fresh new face as the companion, without any preconceptions. Thank you for making me feel very old. I was thinking the same thing.
Basically got nothing to say since I've never heard of her before. Jenna Coleman came from a soap and look how far she's gone so I've no worries on the acting front. But it is depressing to think she was three years old when "Rose" aired...
Actually, I think all three of them beat her by months. It sounds like Gibson won't debut until the 2023 Christmas season, by which point she'll be about 19 years, 6 months, assuming I did the arithmetic right. Waterhouse was about 18 years, 10 months old when "Full Circle" aired, Watling was about 19 years, 4 months old when "The Evil of the Daleks" aired, and Sutton was about 19 years, 1 month old when "The Keeper of Traken" aired. Which is interesting, since it sounds very old-fashioned to me, like something out of the 1940s or the Old West. I mean, Marvel hasn't even revived Millie the Model as an MCU character yet!
This is funny. Her last audition was on the 24th of September and on the 23rd of September she posted the script from her final "Coronation Street" scene to Twitter. https://twitter.com/MillieGibson01/status/1573409522366185472
Looks like Russell is finally getting that Star Trek crossover he wanted back in 2005! (And is that other actor cosplaying Boimler?)
As with others I hadn't heard of her but sure she'll be great and she and Ncuti look fab together. Did have my heart set on Rose Alying-Ellis though
