Milan Cortina Olympics

Here's a video that I came across in my feed about two of the Torino Olympics. It's both cool and sad to see Olympic venues of old be abandoned once their Olympic year come and go. I think winter facilities unlike ones for summer games are more susceptible to being abandoned, especially ones like the luge seeing as they're very specific in their usage. Makes me glad to see facilities in places such as Lake Placid still in use for training.

i think the ones from the 1984 winter games was much worse because of the yugasolvia civil war in the 90s

I've seen a few videos like that over the years. This is why I wish the games would only go to cities that have the infrustructure already in place, but (I think) the corruption prevents that from happening.

I think it's less corruption and more that hosting the Olympics is an incredibly expensive proposition, and some locations that have already hosted prefer not to do so again. It's asking these locations to ready themselves for a large influx of people, both competing and not, for a relatively short amount of time, which can put an enormous of stress on these locations. Some of them deal with it better, but a smaller country might feel the stress more acutely, therefore the infrastructure might suffer more in the long-run, and rural locations such as the two featured in the video might end up feeling the upkeep is not worth it.

I think reusing facilities becomes more of a thing in larger cities that can maintain the infrastructure because they can also be used for practice leading up to Olympic events around the world, therefore can afford the upkeep. But I think an exception to that would be Lake Placid in NY, which is a fairly small town that has branded itself as an Olympic training center, and people tend to come from all over to train at their facilities, after hosting the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them hosting again in the future.
