But I'm strangely curious all the same.

Listening to The Simpsons audio commentaries, the writers, show runners and so on often cite their show as being one of the first things to really develop a strong online following, eventually contributing to the concept of an internet community that we carry today.

That's almost certainly true, but it did make me wonder which franchise had a greater impact on the internet and on that concept of an internet community that's so commonplace now in terms of public perception. If Star Trek had a larger effect on that or The Simpsons.

If that even makes any sense.

I don't know. It's one of those little, unimportant questions that popped into my head the other day.
 
Dunno about great online following, but if it wasn't for porn I could have gone a lot longer without an online connection at home. :bolian:
