Mickey is going to be in the new JJ Trek '13

^ Yeah, because the first one worked out so well for all those 'primitives'....

I think the casting so far is just great, yet I am afraid that Mickey may be the perfect red shirt, especially once we get to care about his wife and family back home. That is a certain kiss of death :(

30 year old Mickey dating 18 year old Rose? Hmmmm.... No wonder the TARDIS brought the Doctor there.

Negatory. We saw a young Mickey in the episode "Father's Day" -- Mickey is maybe five years older than Rose at the most. So he would probably have been around 24 when Rose left with the Doctor at the end of "Rose" and 25 when she returned in "Aliens of London," 26 when he left for the alternate universe in "The Age of Steel," 29 when he returned in "Army of Ghosts"/"Doomsday" (as three years passed in Pete's World between "The Age of Steel" and "Army of Ghosts") and probably somewhere in his early 30s when he returned form Pete's World in "Journey's End."

Yeah that's what I was thinking too.

Maybe I'm being optimistic here but I think the purpose and extent of his role will be limited to a cameo that is a nod to Star Trek mythology.

For some reason, I'm expecting that his character and his family will be settlers or colonists on a planet which is attacked by the Big Bad early on. Based on absolutely nothing.

Who else is slightly worried that the moment he comes onscreen, somebody in the audience is going to cry out "Mickey!" or worse "It's the tin dog!" (a reference to something Noel said in the 'School Reunion' episode of modern Who)?

The first thing I yelled to my cat when I read about the casting was "Mickey Mouse!" To quote Captain Jack

That's the one! And Jack hugs Mickey and says "That's beefcake" and Mickey says back, "and that's enough huggin'" lol

I think Noel will do well in Star Trek. I hope the part is worthy of his time and talents.
