Michael Jackson's foray into Sci-Fi: CAPTAIN EO

Michael Jackson's foray into science fiction: Captain EO part I & Captain EO part II.

Flash Gordon meets Star Wars Cantina meets the Borg Queen. With original songs and extra cheese. In 3D.

Stick around for the credits. You'll be freaking amazed who was involved.

I saw it the first year they aired it at Disney. It was a huge deal back then.

I once read a Rolling Stone interview with the guy who played Jar-Jar Binks and he said that back when George Lucas was casting The Phantom Menace, that Jackson wanted to voice the role.

Thanks for link. My brain will never forgive you.

... the Borg Queen.

Seriously. Leaving aside the similarities to the Queen, there were even cyborgs recharging in alcoves.

I kind of figured Lucas would be involved somehow. Coppola surprised me though!

I saw Captain Eo at Disney when I was a kid. Y'all laugh now, but it had a lot of hype back in the day just because MJ was in it..... in 3D!

Somewhere here, I have a pair of the purple 3D glasses ("liberated from Disney's slave employ") and a T-shirt. Looks like Eo's, but doesn't light up. IIRC, they were handing them out the first day the attraction opened.

I saw it at Disneyland when it was still there, but I can't remember exactly when. I was pretty young. There's definitely similarities to the Borg and the Borg Queen in there, though.

It was fine. Saw it at WDW. I seem to remember "The Making of Captain EO" being on 50 times a day when The Disney Channel first came about.

Ah yes, Captain Eo -- I remember seeing that many, many moons ago at... Epcot Center? The Magic Kingdom? I forget which part of Disney World was showing it, and I also forget a lot of the movie itself, but I think I remember enjoying it.

Oh yeah, and I remember some of the 3-D effects freaking out my little sister, who must have been very young at the time indeed. Ah, memories...

Wow. :D I thought it was bad back when I originally saw it, and it hasn't exactly aged well...

The villains are like the unholy offspring of the Borg and the cast of Cats. :rommie:

I think MJ's first foray into Sci-Fi was when he first opened the door of his plastic surgeon...

Ha I made my parents sit through Captain Eo every time we went to Disneyland, which was often. I thought it was the most epic, bestest thing ever! In 3D too! I was always disappointed when I had to give the 3D glasses back. Every time we visited the attraction, I hoped Disneyland changed its policy and would let us keep the purple plastic glasses.

The film really is beyond retched from an adult perspective. With each screening, I no doubt made my parents regret their decision to reproduce just that much more.

I do remember asking my dad once, after the 20th or so screening, if Captain Eo was a boy or a girl. I was a little confused on that point.
