poor execution by modern standards, let me clarify. And I am over 40, btw.
Every TV show eventually falls victim to time. We'll see if Discovery holds up as long as TOS.
Perhaps a lot of that is due to HOW folks now get a large amount of their viewing done.Most of the post-TOS shows, other than perhaps TNG, have not held on for half as long as TOS so there's no reason to expect STD to do. Now, by "hold up" I mean specifically continue to be widely watched. The decline in the marketability of the modern Trek shows as years have passed has been noted; the disappointing sell-through of the TNG remastered project is a major reason that nothing's being done with the later shows.
Starfleet doesn’t execute people for mutiny. A “true” Star Trek fan would know that.She should be dragged in front of a tribunal and executed as a mutineer. No star fleet officer behaves like this. This isn't Star Trek. It is a cheap rip off. Like look at the Klingon's, OMG its soooo bad. How can anyone like this show. The Star Trek spirit is gone, where is the exploration, where is the prime directive. Its just a bunch of low brow effects to wow the idiot that couldn't understand the real concepts form the first three series.
... so say we all. <snicker>Just ignore the troll. He's not going to be here for long.
I can understand them going after Michael Bay for his one dimensional presentation of women and men in his Transformer movies. But I disagree strongly with her mentioning Joss Whedon because he presented one "kick ass fragile waif"- like character "with no real power", in River Tam in Firefly.Sam Witwicky from the Transformers movies. Loser numero uno, whose entire claim special destiny came about because he owned a pair of glasses made important by things his grandfather did, and owned a car made important by the fact that it was an alien lifeform. Cue three movies of him stuttering and whining and complaining while 30 foot tall robots tell him over and over how special he is.

It makes me hope they compliment her 5x as much in season two. Maybe have some confetti or something when someone says her name.Why is this only a problem with female characters? TOS glorified Kirk, TNG treated Picard as nearly a saint. This Mary Sue shit is just getting lame.
Why do you care?Looks like the Michael Burnham Praise-fest continues for Season 2;

"There are also moments where the episode gets a bit too precious. There’s one moment with the Enterprise, but most involve Burnham. She’s proven herself to be an exceptional officer (and please leave your “Mary Sue” complaints at the door). Yet, the way that so many people throughout the episode feel the need to vocalize how awesome she is to her face feels strange. It's especially jarring when she was so looked down on for her actions aboard the Shenzhou throughout the previous season. It is understandable that Discovery’s writers might want to push past that. They likely don't want to deal with the fallout of Burnham’s mutiny forever, but this episode lays it on a bit thick at times."

And if the schmuck that wrote that review thinks they are laying it on too thick with the Burnham praise... oh boy.![]()
Because just like the latest thread that poster started, he wishes to broadcast his contempt for the show and apparently wishes to tear anyone who likes the show, a new one.Why do you care?

Pike: Commander Burnham...
* confetti falls *
Burnham: (looks up) Where does that keep coming from?!?
How sad.Because just like the latest thread this poster started, he wishes to broadcast his contempt for the show and apparently wishes to tear anyone who likes the show, a new one.
Or at the very least denigrate Discovery to anybody who will listen.
