Michael A Martin?

PKS8304

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Just read "Seasons of Light & Darkness" the other day and I was wondering if Michael A Martin was done writing for Star Trek. I know there was quite few people who didnt care for his solo work on here but I thought it was decent. Plus it would be nice to get resolution to that Andorian storyline in Titan's "Fallen Gods"

I've wondered even longer what happened to Mangles his writing partner.

Andy is alive and well (at least as of June 2012, last time I saw him) doing as much writing as he can get hired for, and working other jobs to pay the bills.

Nobody has ever given an explanation for why he was seemingly "exiled" from Star Trek. But it's likely just one of those things -- editorial regimes changed, Andy fell out of favor with the new regime (like KRAD and others) and different writers gained favor.

Just as it now appears Michael A Martin has fallen out of favor, perhaps as a result of a perceived failure of the Romulan War books.

FYI: According to Christopher L. Bennett's posts in the Grimm thread, Andy Mangels was a background extra in a couple of episodes of the show.

I definitely do not want to see a resolution to that mess of a story. It's probably best if that story was left in the past.

Actually maybe its because I'm a little "OCD" about little things like this but it will bother me everytime we see one of the Andorian crewmen on Titan if there isn't a resolution to that....

Agreed. It was a horrlbe piece of trash. Although.... Somehow I'd love the irony of Andy Mangels could be asked to come and write a conclussion to that story. :D

Was this the transporter duplicate storyline?

Yup. I still don't understand how TPTB at Pockets thought that was a good thing, but never greenlit a novel telling the Ascendents storyline.....

Well January's DS9 novel is titled "Ascendance" so I suspect we're getting that, too.

But that doesn't change your point - the transport duplicate story was totally ridiculous.

I recently read Fallen gods again I agree the Andorian transporter duplicates storyline is a mess.I'm glad the glad the fall miniseries ignored this story plot about the Andorians. I did like Andy Mangels and Micheal Martin's Ds9 Novel Cathedreal and Their Enterprise Novel The Good that men do.

I vaguely remember some business where there seemed to be some sort of falling out between Martin and Mangels. Like Mangels saying he was the one who brought in Martin and then the first thing he hears about Martin doing solo work is via the publishers announcement and Mangels hasn't written any Trek since. If I'm mis-remembering that please let me know but that's what I believe I read years ago.

The partnership produced books I liked a lot, Rogue and Forged in Fire being favorites, and some that I hated, Kobayashi Maru is just not good. I can't think of anything written by solo Martin that I've liked.

I enjoyed most of the work produced by Martin & Mangels as a team. I count TLE: The Sundered, EXC: Forged in Fire, TTN: Taking Wing & Red King, and ENT: The Good That Men Do, as some great reads. I still have not finished Kobayashi Maru, and have not made it as far as Cathedral in the DS9 relaunch..
