Okay, here's the idea that I've been fooling around with for this month's Egyptian challenge. I was inspired by a photo of Howard Carter examining the sarcophagus of Tutankhamun which in my mind got combined with what we saw of the Klingons in the trailer for Discovery. I like the idea of a Klingon archeologist going against Warrior tradition and learning more about the past of his people.

I'm not quite sure where this will go style-wise, but here's my progress thus far in form of a time-lapse video. I'm just sketching out what I want to include in the image and add some shading in the end. But in my mind the end result is actually much more colorful. I hope to include Klingon hieroglyphs and stuff like that. Lot's of directions this could go from here.

What du you think? Any suggestions how to improve this?

Oh, this is a great idea! I'd forgotten that Klingon buidlings (well, some of them in the First City, at least) have a pyramid-like design, so aside from the sarcophagus, this fits the theme very well. I like where this is going and don't have any suggestions at the mo. However, there is a small thing that bugs me, and it's something that crops up again and again in Star Trek (and other shows/films/real life): impractically shaped doors that partially block one's entrance/exit! I'm not saying change it as it does fit in the ST universe :)

    Thank you, @Cyfa!

Yes, a valid criticism. I was, however, inspired by the shape of the doors on the bridge of the Bird-of-Prey and rationalized it as some archaic way doors were built by ancient Klingons which was then later adapted for their ships. I don't know, maybe I'll change it later on.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. :)

Thank you, guys! Your kind words definitely fuel my enthusiasm to finish this. I just hope to find time in the following weeks. Currently I'm thinking about ambience, color schemes and where I want to go with this style-wise.

EDIT: Here's some progress. I tried out a color scheme that might work, added ambient sunlight and some quick temporary Klingon hieroglyphs.

I think the colour and the bright sunlight works really well - like a harsh midday desert sun. Very in-keeping with the theme.

Okay, I did eventually find the time to finish this. Could probably add more layers of detail, but this is more or less what I had in mind. What do you think?

M, this looks amazing! And I've just noticed that you made the door wider (and therefore more practical), too ;)

That's the kind of reaction I could only hope for. Thank you!

Yeah, I had you in mind when I adjusted the door. I do think it looks much better this way. Thanks for the suggestion!
