MGM saved (by Star Trek, sort of!) - Bond 23 to go ahead.

Hope this also means they can get their ass in gear with the remaining Bond Blu-rays...

FOX holds the home video distribution rights to MGM's catalog. The film studio's ongoing financial woes do not and have not affected DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases.

Unless I'm mistaken, in the past new Bond video/DVD re-issues are usually timed around the release of a new Bond film, so that might really be the hold-up, in the sense that the next film is on hold.

^ AFAIK, when Quantum of Solace (and possibly Casino Royale) came out, there were no major reissues done at that time.

Apparently MGM is fast-tracking James Bond 23 for a November 2012 release date with plans to make a new James Bond film every year after 2012. I'm glad we're getting a new movie by 2012- hoping that the original plans for the film are still intact and Sam Mendes will direct a Peter Morgan script starring Daniel Craig- but I'm not so sure about the plans to do a new film every year- that seems like too much, and I have a fear the quality of these films might be in jeopardy.

Anyway, here's the link: http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEMYJDzIPzNLRQ

Bond movies used to come out every 2 years until the post LTK hiatus; Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and TWINE were all two years apart, IIRC but I can't see them ever making the series an annual event.

How could they possibly do a Bond movie every year? It would nearly kill Daniel Craig...

I made a mistake and read it in the article as "every year" but apparently it reads "every other year", probably meaning two years apart from one another.

That's how it's been for most of the series - from Thunderball through to LALD, then from TSWLM onwards (with longer gaps between Dalton and Brosnan, and Brosnan and Craig)

Dr. No - 62, From Russia - 63, Goldfinger - 64, Thunderball - 65.

Those were all once a year then You Only Live Twice an onwards was a 2 year break.

I don't think it would kill Daniel Craig. They shoot those in a matter of weeks with the special effects, editing, etc taking longer. If you keep the same director and production crew who are constantly working it can be done. I would love a Bond flick once a year. I'd love a Trek flick once a year as well.

I have no problem with the movies being two years apart. I thought the article said they were planning a movie every year, which I thought would be a mistake.

They were adapting books back then, now they have to come up with original stories. Plus back then, there were fewer blockbusters to compete with. There's such a thing as over-saturation.

Don't forget either that post-LTK the 007 series moved from competing with the big summer blockbusters to autumn/ winter releases. I don't think they have the pull to justify releasing one every year.

Just tell me the date of when something is going to be released in theaters or on video. I can't talk all this waiting yet filming tidbits speculation minutia for everything I want to see anymore. Ahhhhhh!

Glad to see 23 is on track though- kind of, sorta, maybe so they say ;0)
