Metallica - Death Magnetic

^^ I think Mustaine plus Het and Lars would have been too much ego for a single unit and would have led to a meltdown sooner than later.

Yeah, a friend of mine feels the same way. If things could have worked out I would have loved to see this set up for Metallica:

Lars, James, Cliff (if he didnt die) and Mustaine. I know they had a different bass player before Mustaine drove him off but that's the four guys I wish were in Metallica now. Nothing against Hammet, who's an excellent guitarist btw.

I have it but haven't listened to it yet...

I've only heard the 3 songs that were available so far. I liked My Apocalypse and The Day That Never Comes but not so much Cyanide.

What do you have against Cyanide? I actually enjoy it more than My Apocalypse.

Well, I'll tell you when i hear the good quality studio version from the album.

Unlike the other 2, so far i had only heard Cyanide from a bad live recording so maybe that played a part in my not liking it so much. :)

It probably did play a part. I heard the crappy Ozzfest recording, and was decidedly unimpressed. But believe me, the album version is soooo much better. You don't get a true impression of the song off the live recording.

All of Death Magnetic is now freely available on youtube. Apparently a French record store has been selling it early. I'm not going to post any links since for all I know Lars posts here ;)

I will say this though, Unforgiven 3s piano opening is epic.

Definitely. And "All Nightmare Long" is 8 minutes of fucking awesome.

I'm listening to All Nightmare Long right now and I think this might be my favorite song on the album so far. Great stuff. As someone who likes all Metallica (I freely admit I liked Load and Reload) this is an awesome album so far.

Definitely my favorite track on the album so far.

Overall, I love it. The only track that I don't care for 100% is Cyanide.

Where does this album stand compared to Ride/Puppets/Justice? Fooled me once with the black album...

As an old school Metallicat I really wasn't planning on buying this record. I gave up on the band after they went commercial with the Black Album, but after reading so many strong reviews I broke down and bought it. I literally got giddy as I listened to the first track. I haven't had that type of an emotional reaction to a new song in so long. I so love the old thrash Metallica and didn't realize how much I missed it until listening to this album. Other than "Cyanide," they're all very good to excellent tracks. "That Was Just Your Life" and "Suicide and Redemption" are my favorites so far.

This Album would have fit in nicely as a "bridge" between Justice and the Black Album. It's many times better than Load/Re-Load and St. Anger. I'd say that it's better than Black and on par with Justice.

You can pretend that the albums Load, Reload, and St. Anger never happened. They're gone. Finished. Erased.
