Metal Wind Chimes!

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
aaargh that's all I can say. Even with the doors and windows closed there is no peace! The neighbors all have wind chimes. I mean if my music was too damn loud, they'd come over and complain, and I'd gladly turn it down, but wind chimes are constant noise pollution. I almost think they should be illegal.

I sympathise, I bloody hate those things. They are anti social.

I remember about 10 years ago my parents got some of those, and about two weeks later, this chap (who we didn't know) from the other end of the street paid us a visit and said they were keeping him and his wife awake

They are pointless things, since for what tiny amount of pleasure you might get from them, in a light wind, they're worse night time noise makers than car alarms.

When my parents decided to put it back up a few weeks later, I rigged the danglers so they didn't hit into each other, but hit into the strings instead. It was mostly silent from then on, making just the occasional chime, and my parents didn't seem to notice :)

Aw, I like them. It's a very comforting sound and reminds me of my childhood for some reason, and that feeling when you were lying in bed trying to fall asleep and everything was silent except for the lovely chimes outside.

I have a set right now out front but they are very loud at all, it's just a slight noise really and I don't think the neighbors could even hear them.

I've always like them. :D

Unfortunately, I don't have any because I live in a townhome with close neighbors. Still, if someday I'm ever in a house with enough land I'm getting some.

why would that stop you? Is there legislation where you are?

I live in a mobile home park with close neighbors. how do I tell them I don't like them? Why do they have them up all day all night all year round?

If it's ever quiet enough for me to hear wind chimes, I get paranoid and get the feeling the world's about to end.

I blame movies and TV for this.

There are basic laws on noise pollution, but it's decibel based, not whether or not it irritates you. I doubt they break those laws, but you never know. Read up about noise pollution laws. Also, if you can convince your doctor that your neighbours are causing you health problems, they could be threatened with an asbo  But otherwise, your preferences for them to not be there don't have any leverage.

Were you ever in the scouts? Did you learn how tie decent knots :guffaw:

I've just made the assumption that it would bother the neighbors. I suppose if it was really important to me I could always ask them. One of my neighbors has a little fountain in his yard which I find quite soothing.
