What is perhaps the biggest PS3 game thus far is coming out tonight at midnight. As such, I think a pole is in order!!!!!! Honestly, this is the primary reason why I purchased a PS3 in the first place (before this, I've been mostly using my PS3 as a PS2). So who else is gonna get the game?

Metal Gear?!
I have the LE Pre-ordered... gonna grab it tomorrow, hopefully.
A certain poster here hates Kojima-san ( ;) ) though, so...

My copy arrived yesterday. :techman:

A few minutes ago I saw a Playboy magazine on a couch, went over and flipped through a couple pages, then got blown up by a proximity mine hidden on the other side of the couch.

Australia, just an online retailer who shipped early. :)

I think I'm around halfway through the first act, I've just
escaped from the Frogs after meeting up with Meryl and the rest of Rat Patrol in Advent Palace.
At this point I've seen at least half the footage that's been featured in all the various trailers, so that definitely seems to back up the theory that very little from the latter four acts has been revealed in the deluge of pre-release media.

Nope, four or five in the 10-15min range though. I'm enjoying them, the character models/animations are ridiculously well done.

Someone, everyone!

I want MGS4, have waited on a PS3 until now and have heard there are different bundles I might want to get, but I don't know the details of them. I can tell you that PS2 compatibility IS very important to me and that the matte grey thing I heard about, if that's correct, is neat but not essential.

Can anyone post a real quick briefing on the options and what I oughtta get? I don't want to miss out on anything!

Thanks!

For those like me (who don't have a PS3, don't plan on owning a PS3, and just wanted to know how the story ends)...

- Major Zero is the founder of the Patriots. (In a way, we knew this from Portable Ops.)

- He formed the Patriots to honor soldiers like The Boss. He recruited Para-Medic (Dr. Clark, whom Grey Fox killed on his escape, revealed in MGS1) and SIGINT (DARPA chief Donald Anderson), and eventually Big Boss, Eva and Ocelot become members temporarily.

- Zero becomes corrupt and clones Big Boss without his consent. Big Boss finds out and leaves the Patriots. Eva and Ocelot become intent on destroying the Patriots. Instead of recruiting more members Major Zero uses AI automation to form the rest of the Patriot members so that his system became automated by smart A.I.s.

-Naomi dies from cancer after her nanomachines are disabled

-Vamp dies after his nanomachines are disabled, then Raiden finishes him off.

- Eva dies trying to save Solidus' body in a fire because she believed Ocelot was really taken over by Liquid. Snake tries to save her but his face gets badly burnt.

-BIG BOSS IS STILL ALIVE. How the fuck?

- Big Boss dies by deliberately breathing in the mutated FOXDIE injected into Old Snake by Drebin (the arms dealer). He appears to Snake in a graveyard and stops him from killing himself.

- Big Boss kills Major Zero at the graveyard. Major Zero was practically dead already, he was just alive in a physical sense at that point.

- Ocelot dies.

- Ultimately, the story of Metal Gear Solid 4 is the conclusion of a vast conspiracy through which Ocelot and EVA (with Naomi's help) exact their revenge on Major Zero, and open the doors of redemption for themeselves. We should be under no illusions as to the true role of Ocelot from the very start. As Big Boss reveals, "In order to fool the system, Ocelot used nanomachines and psychotherapy to transplant Liquid's personality into his own mind. He used hypnotic suggestion to turn himself into a mental doppleganger of Liquid." Foreseeing every step Snake would make, every likely outcome, Ocelot allows his apparent adversary to complete the most integral parts of his plot because he understands fundamentally that Snake is the tool of the Patriots, and therefore above suspicion in their eyes - whether he knows it or not.

- Ocelot reveals that he was a "doppelganger" of Liquid Snake to throw off the Patriots -- Liquid's arm never truly took control of him.

- Snake lives but has 3 months to live, so he goes off to live the remainder of his life in solitude.

- Meryl marries Johnny Sasaki.

- Raiden doesn't die and reunites with Rose and his kid.

- In a sense, Solid Snake was the villain all along. He was the "gun of the Patriots." He has always been a tool of the Patriots.. during MG1, MG2, MGS, MGS2, MGS4 - he was created by the Patriots. They made him age extremely quickly and made him sterile because he could have fallen into enemy hands. He will die alone, isolated from the world months after MGS4's ending, knowing that he was always a tool of the Patriots.

You want to get the 80GB version. Ideally, you want the 60GB version, but I don't think those exist anymore.

The 60GB version has the backward compability chip while the newer 80GB version uses emulation. It really doesn't matter if you don't have a ton of PS2 games...

I'm really of two minds about this. A while back I checked my PS2 and few remaining PS1 games against the compatibility list on the Sony website and most of them were listed as either having major compatibility issues or not compatible at all and oddly enough that included my MGS games! So I'm not certain it'd be worth it.

I'll pick it up eventually, but I still have a ton of other games that I need to finish at the moment (Grand Theft Auto IV, Mass Effect (PC), Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga, Burnout Paradise, Folklore).

MGS1 played fine on my PS3 anyway...
The emulation in the 80GB version does have some limited problems, but nothing too big I guess.

I tried one of the MGS games on the original xbox but i found it difficult to get into as well as control, so i wont be getting this one.....still though I'm sure MGS fans will be in for a treat with this big PS3 release.

No, I'm not going to buy it. The last one I bought was the MGS2. I got bored half way through and never finished it.

With Ryan Peyton on the time, it seems like the controls are more "Western" friendly this time around. We'll see tomorrow, I guess.

Does it still have that strange system for firing your gun where it treats one of the shoulder buttons like a trigger ?

Where else would you put a trigger on a PS controller???

As for me and MGS - nope. Never played any of the earlier games, don't own a PS3. Actually have never owned a Playstation of any sort. Its on my to-get list, though.

I dunno. I think that's a Playstation thing where all shooters use the shoulder buttons as triggers instead of... well, the triggers.
For me, that was the biggest brain freeze thing when I first started playing PS3 games.
