From the "well it's about time" department, BBC Video announced the somewhat belated North American DVD release of Merlin season 3 for January 17.
Looks like the same package as the British release, including the blooper reel. There's also a 3-part featurette "The Making of Merlin" which I assume is the substitute for the cancelled "Secrets and Magic" - aka Merlin Confidential - and probably can be seen as an idea of how 2 Entertain may handle future Doctor Who season sets now Doctor Who Confidential is gone.

I'm surprised it's only on DVD and not Blu-ray. Isn't the UK release on Blu-ray too? Then again, it appears Region 1 isn't getting the Blu-ray for Sarah Jane Adventures Season 4, so who knows.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. For reasons too stupid to go into I completely missed the Canadian broadcast of Season 3 earlier this year (I thought it was a rerun of Season 2) and I haven't been able to get my timing right so I figured I'd wait for the DVD, but for a while there I thought it wasn't happening (just as we've never seen the last few seasons of Hustle on DVD over here).

PS Gotta love the wording on the promo reprinted at that link, promising that Merlin will go up against "deadly assassins". Doctor Who is still trying to live that one down 35 years later!
