mercury's unusual behavior

I've been reading some controversial books that say the element mercury has some unusual properties--in addition to those we all know about.

One source says that if you rotate a heat-source below a vat (?) of mercury, the mercury will rotate in the opposite way! Is this true? If so, why do you think that is?

Or, is this just some hypothetical speculation for some reason?

At least one author suggests that mercury could be a powerful energy source.

Mercury, all by itself? Does it have to be positioned over Ley lines to work?

So, let the author commercialize this "powerful energy source," then we'll see about it counter-rotating to a heat source. Or does the author also claim that "big oil" is preventing him from getting his company off the ground?

I'm curious. Really. Your post has given us only the sketchiest of information. Who is the author? Are there any documented experiments showing this counter-rotation, or otherwise explaining how mercury can be a powerful energy source?

Well, prepare to be excited by this 1986 paper paper titled "The Onset of Oscillatory Behavior in a Rotating Layer of Mercury Heat from Below and Subject to a Magnetic Field."

And remember, I just said to prepare to be excited. Don't actually do it.

Also, Mercury is a successful and popular power source. My housemate's boat engine says "Mercury" right on the side. :)

Reminds me of a medical animation I had to do. The case study was a 40-year-old woman who fell off the back of a motorboat into a lake. The prop ripped up her left forearm and left knee. Orthopaedic surgeons fully reconstructed the woman. My boss at the multimedia company referred to the job as "Patella vs. Evinrude." The case photos were certainly rude enough.

Varek, I noticed that far more than heat was involved in getting the mercury to move about. So what are we chasing here: an incorrect model of how the Sun works, or Einsteinian Relativity?
