Memo to Bad Robot: Please include a tribute to Leonard in the new film

Re: Memo to Bad Robot: Please include a tribute to Leonard in the new

I wonder if they'll work it into the story? Like the crew hearing of Spock-Prime dying or something like that.

That could be a powerful moment, QuintoSpock learning of his older self's death.

I'd prefer to think Spock was living out a productive life on New Vulcan.

I'm sure it'll happen. It's just a shock that Nimoy passed at a young age.

He beat the odds.

Even if it is a scene from the video they made together for Shatner called Mind Meld where Shatner had a very moving and insightful interview with Leonard at his home. It was two best friends having a blast.

83 years is a good run, especially considering that he was a cigarette smoker for many years.

On the other thread on this subject, a poster had a nice suggestion: Have the words "For Leonard" open the film.

I think that would be sufficient.

83? He made the most of his life. It wasn't tragic. Most of us live shorter lives. Celebrate it.

I agree. This is all that is needed. Shoehorning a CGI version into the film itself would seem tacky. If he'd already shot some scenes, then sure, make an effort to keep them in the final cut. But that's not the case here.

It's true that 83 doesn't sound as old as it once did, but he lived a long, full and aware life right to the end. That's all any of us should wish for. Trust me, as someone who's dealt with dementia on both sides of my family, living longer isn't necessarily living better. You begin to appreciate quality over quantity.

It would be most appropriate. If they wanted to do a little more, have the film open with the actors out of character and in "civvies" (maybe even with Abrams) standing around the empty science station chair on the bridge, and have them say in unison, "For Leonard," and fade out. Since they all met him and worked with him, that would seem appropriate, too.

^ No.
I'd prefer to think Spock was living out a productive life on New Vulcan.

They could have Quinto say "We have decided to pursue our separate destinies" - except they already blew that out of the water with STID's "phone a friend" moment.

Re: Memo to Bad Robot: Please include a tribute to Leonard in the new

I'm don't really see the point. The film is still a year and a half from now. By then, his death will have completely disappeared from the public consciousness.

And even if it were sooner, such a moment would be unusual for film, and it would be really hard to do without feeling forced. The only reason to consider it at all is his importance to the franchise. Really, if they do anything at all, keep it as something simple for the fans. Like black screen/white text "For Leonard" after the studio logos and before the fade in.

Since there's bound to be a 50th TV thing, save any significant tribute for that, where everyone will get a chance to say his or her piece.

I expect at least a dedication, and I'd be perfectly satisfied with it.
