members from riot areas, please report in

Damn...do they not have tear gas or guns? They could at least shoot rubber bullets...

Didn't this all start because the cops shot someone...?

AFAIK they're not allowed to use water cannons, rubber/plastic bullets, or anything else to contain a riot...

They are- but there are no water cannon in the mainland, and both those and baton rounds are only effective against tight-knit crowds in confined locations - which these weren't - so they wouldn't have worked anyway.

What the hell do they contain it with then? Hail Mary's?

Harsh language.

Ah summat like that...

Hoshi's sis replied to my e-mail. Her family is fine. Last night's rioting was about 5 miles from her home. She's of course keeping her kids home because she's afraid they'd get caught up in a sweep by police -- even if they weren't doing anything.

She hopes things will cool down soon, but added that football season is coming up and that's when the thugs get really active, so she's kind of worried about that.

If our Police were armed it's more likely the criminals would arm themselves in response.

No if there is something i've learned about brits over the years is that they're incredibly idealistic. But please tell me you dont actually belive that? if there is a need for weapos they will get them. And the only thing the cops will accomplish is dwindling numbers.

The town i live in is the center of crime in the entire country. We have everything from guns, drugs to trafficing going through the docks. We have unarmed police too. Well batons dont count. And they dont do a helluva lot of good. I actually patched up a police officer the other day. Five against one. No matter the training. He was screwed.

Now if unarmed police officers are so common as you say, i'm stunmed that there still is a Britain left.

I said more likely, i.e yes they might use a knife and in some cases a firearm, but if the police are armed it might increase the number of firearms instead of knifes. You wouldn't take a knife to a gunfight. Of course Britain faces many of the same challanges in relation to Law & Order that other countries face. But each country has to face them in their own way, whilst I would advocate against increasing the number of armed Police Officers, I would advocate in favour of tougher sentaces for offences, i.e a Life Sentance means exactly that a Life time behind bars, if you want it to mean something different then make it something like 15 to Life, meaning that the person has to spend at least 15 years in Jail before eligable for Parole. Personally I would re-categorise all offences i.e A-F, with A being the most series and F being in essence mistoemenors. So a category E Offence for exampe carries a jail term of 0-3 years jail time. If you are dumb enough to be convicted of 3 category E offences, that is considered to be eqivelant to a a category D offence which is say 3-7 years in jail, and so on. If two or more offences are part of the same criminal activety then any sentances imposed upon conviction run consecutively. i.e if you commit and are convicted of both an E and D Offence then for the D you serve between 3-7 years, and when you've finished that snetance you then serve the 0-3 years for the E offense.

And I'm intrigued by the fact that you think Brits are Idealist.

yes, of course. The point is, the statistics lie, mate. I'm sure british authorities make a huge deal about their accomplishments with unarmed police officers. but the simple fact is that they work because the perps don't feel the need that they to carry weapons. I don't believe for a second that they cant get a hold of them. If you can handle a cop with only a knife or another type of hand-to-hand/CQB weapon i.e. wrench, baseball bat, whatever, why risk carrying a gun? i you get busted you'll just looking at longer time in the pen. if the situation calls for it, they will be packing. they simply leave the gun at home unless they're sure they'll need it.

what i would like to see, and i will get a hold of some info, is the number of injured police officers in britain vs. lets say sweden. the number of killed would lean it in britain's favor, but i bet the number of injured would be on sweden's.

a gun can be both a physical weapon and psychological weapon. even if armed with a gun, the perps will rather back down that risk getting shot. most criminals have little or no weapons training. only the most desperate would risk a shoot out, or the most confident. i have a friend in the police, one of two police officers i actually trust in this corruption ridden town, he hast fired his service weapon in the line of duty in twenty years. yet he has an impeccable arrest record.

you dont need to use your gun to get results. a fact i proved just a few days ago when i went out and waved a 19th century revolver in the air. the gang scrambled to leave. while the weapon itself is useless (unloaded, missing firing pin), they did not know that. and even a slight chance that it was live activated their (well developed) sense of self preservation. the same rules apply to the police.

And yes. I do believe brits a idealistic. Or should I say we brits? I'm half british by now. I've been converted! Good lord i drink afternoon tea!
most of my friends and acquaintances are either british or have british ancestry. i'm pretty sure my girlfriend was born in london, but her family is originally from birmingham. and my best friends mother is from manchester (american father).

PS. I study Criminal Psychology. :techman:

Good lord i drink afternoon tea!

Then you're not British. Coffee drinkers overtook tea drinkers some years ago.

Civil disobedience in Latchingdon consists of someone dropping a crisp packet, so none of this has affected me. For some reason no-one attacked the Treasury. The Government Office in Birmingham got ransacked though.

Various colleagues have been affected, either through acting as special constables or having their high streets trashed. They've given special leave to anyone who wants to take time off to help clear the place up.

It was moderate but not in residential areas. They were focussing on the shopping districts. I should think they'd be fine.

All they looted from the office was pot plants.

As anyone heard from Niorah? Hope everyone is okay.

My siblings use to live there. All three of my siblings have friends there.

Indeed. Also, most of it disappeared before the police arrived. I denounce all involvement of course. I have five witnesses who will testify I was playing cricket on the other side of town at the time.

No really, i didn't do it. But at least someone had the common sense to liberate it before the resident party pooper arrived.
