Ok I don't know if this has been posted before, but Mel Gibson has been involved in a nasty car accident, though he survived. Yet another development in the surreal and manic antics of Mel Gibson.

Can't speak for him, but when I say I love Mel Gibson, I refer to his craft, and not to the person. When he for example chats with Letterman and it gets fun, I tend to say "Oh, I love this guy". I for myself can separate the real person from the actor. Which is why I still like Polanski movies even though he has the nasty habit of avoiding prosecution after fucking 13-year-olds in the ass, or why I still find Charlie Sheen comedies awesomely funny even though he's probably a drunk idiot most of the time, or why I still like Tom Cruise movies even though I dislike Scientology and really can't stand the guy personally.

I've heard this is not a new thing. He's made sexist, racist and homophobic comments for years but it's hit the big time lately.

It's too bad too. I used to like him a lot more until I found out what an asshole he can apparently be. I still like his movies but then nothing recent comes to mind either.

I liked his movies early on. But since I discovered what an asshole he is several years back, I no longer go see any of his movies. So I have no idea if any of them are any good.

Some principles are more important than any movie. And I refuse to support any anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, religiously-intolerant asshole, no matter how 'good' his movies might be.

His current movies might be very good, for all I know. But I'll never see them.

This is more than just disagreeing with a star's politics or religious views or whatever. I can set that aside, and do all the time. But Mel is in an entirely different category. Mel is a genuine, class-A asshole on so many levels that it's beyond my ability to ignore.
