Mega-Poll #6: Favorite TARDIS Interior

My Favorite-est TARDIS Interior EVAR!!1! is...

  • Total voters
    77
Toy store, mainly because of that funky new console, but as with the coral one it owes a lot to Hudolin's from the TV movie. Would have voted for that one - as it's majestic - but it didn't quite have the atmosphere and practicality of the current one. Would love to see a reinvention of the "gleaming white interior" style in some way, though.

I love them all, but if I had to pick a favourite it's white Roundels, no contest.

I liked the wood 1976-1977 one and the classic one.

Don't like the 2005-today's ones, either too steampunk like or just junk. I prefer seeing sleek, alien technology.....not Sanford and Son in space or the damned Millennium Falcon.

I know the toy store is meant to be the Smith one, but surely that would be more the RTD one. Its controls looked to have been made by Fisher Price. The Smith one's more like Swiss cheese, with those holes everywhere.

My only large complaint about the Smith one is the water faucet controls. On a smaller note, I realize the console being part coral is a carryover of the RTD console, but it looks out of place in Smith's room.

Now, with that said...

Anyway, the McGann one is far and away the best.

I agree 100%, I voted for the classic one with the white roundels. I will never forget when The Doctor first encountered the White Guardian. He was in the TARDIS control room and everything went dark and then all of a sudden the roundels started glowing and then the doors opened and the light flooded in.
I always wondered what happened to the Guardians of Time after the Time War? Maybe a subject for another thread...

My ranking:

1. "Toy store." I love all the staircases running every which way. It gives a great impression of the TARDIS being a very large vessel. And it's so irregular that there's lots of different, interesting angles to shoot. "Amy's Choice" took particularly good advantage of this.
2. "Coral." I like it's massive, alien-looking symmetry. My only beef with it is that there isn't an interior door to go anywhere else in the TARDIS.
3. "White." There's something unbeatably iconic about the classic white design. There's a reason why it lasted over 20 years.
4. "Gothic library." I would rank this one higher if I had seen more of it or seen the 1996 movie more often. (I must mosey on over to Fry's Electronics with that $15 gift card I got for my birthday.)
5. "Wood." I don't hate it. It just doesn't really interest me.

Classic white for me please.

but which one though? The plain white 'just a coatrack' room from Pertwee onward, or the big Hartnell/Troughton one with cubbyholes, furniture, and the glass booth?

I rather like the hartnell version with its fold out beds, large fault detector, view screens, and data banks, with a seperate room for the chronoviewer, circa the chase..:techman:

I have disliked the last two consoles quite a bit. To messy and silly with all the doodads and gizmos thrown onto them. I much prefer the clean lines of the white classic console. I do however like the multi-level room itself used by Smith. The room lends itself to more dramatic story telling then just standing around a console. I did however vote for the white classic.
