Meeting Shatner - What NOT to say & do

So, anyone else go to this con? Mr Shatner was in 'conveyor belt' autograph mode, and so you only met him for a matter of seconds, which I do resent somewhat but I also understand it - with 1000+ people wanting to see him, he either spends time with each one and many miss out or does it how he did and everyone gets to at least meet him.

Unfortunately the orginisers asked me not to attend the event (well, thatss a polite was to put it) but from what I hear, there was a massive turnout for Shatner alone. Not surprising he, and others, were rushed through :(

I didnt get his autograph but I went to the talk. He came across very well, very humble and gracious. Probably the best experience I have had with seeing a Trek actor in the Flesh even though all the others I actually got autographs from and spoke to them.

^^ Why were you asked not to attend?

Had you not showered or something?

I wish it were that simple! There was a mass banning on the forum after someone asked why they could use to tier curses but not the word memorabilia - those who replied after that were banned. I asked why, particularly why my girlfriend was banned yet hadn't been in the thread (nor near a computer) and I was dubbed rude, pushy and unwelcome. She was also banned from events for pointing out her frustration over the forum ban.

Basically, a lot of silliness and threats to me and my business followed and left us over £200 out of pocket as we'd already booked travel, accommodation and tickets for Shatner and Katee Sackhoff.

Needless to say - a touch dissapointing.

What the hell? Seriously? Who orchestrated all this, Jason?

You still could have gone, couldn't you? I mean your name is not on any ticket or anything.

"to tier curses"?

Do you mean "two tier" and if so.....why?

And what's the deal about memorabilia being a bad word.

Sorry but the first part of your post makes ABSOLUTELY no sense!!!

Nor did the situation, sadly :( Someone used the MF word, then later on make a joke about that slipping through the word filter when they couldn't talk about the memorabilia they wanted to buy, as that also happens to be the name of another event.

I thought about it, as the tickets weren't in my name but... with the emails Jason sent me, I wasn't putting any more money in his pocket. His ranting was so erratic that I half expected 'Wanted' signs with my face on them printed out and given to the crew

So... Invasion is the next booking. Just gutted I missed out on Shatner :(

This is actually not the first time I've heard things like this happening to members on the Showmasters forum.

Did his ranting make any sense? It's hard to understand what he's writing sometimes, due to the severe dyslexia and all, can't imagine how it would be when he's outraged. Would be hard to take it seriously.

Yeah, someone I know starts his own forum, in part to discus things outwith Showmasters reach. Jason joined that the other day and continued the ramblings.

He apologised to the forum owner on the phone last night, told him that we're welcome to attend the Glasgow events - but with all the abuse and money lost, I don't feel a great urge to put some more cash in his pockets!

Wow, he welcoms you to the Glasgow event, NOW when you've missed the opportunity to meet William Shatner because of him? That's bullshit.

Family Guy question posed to Shatner, which even I thought was way too harsh: -

"In the episode where you drown your wife, why were you so fat...?"

DON'T MENTION THAT!

I've never seen that episode of Family Guy (thank god) - I can't believe that even FG would make such an insensitive and tasteless joke. That's not even funny, that's cruel.

I'd tell him to stop being such a douche-bag nerd, punch him in the face, get your money back and take his woman... :techman:

The broader question is, "Is William Shatner an asshole?"

His original cast members are more or less thought he was.

I thought Shat' has a sitcom now, and is also doing a crime/documentary type program on A & E. I want the sitcom to succeed because I would like to see Shatner do more comedy and see him as a parent, something we have never really seen from his characters. I have read that the sitcom might be in the tank. I hope not, but when they usually had to "retool" a show it is heading south fast.

So, it is surprising that he still does Star Trek conventions. One has to remember, the man is 79 years old. I don't know if he does the autograph thing, but writing monotonously for a long period of time is a strain on younger people. So, if you are in the back of the line.

Does he smoke cigars and drink fine whiskey?

His fans may not like it, but it IS a fair question.
