Meeting Shatner - What NOT to say & do

In my experience, Bill isn't a talker during the autographs portion. He's jovial and such on stage, but when the signing time comes, it's cattle-call, quick line stuff. Say "thanks" and "nice to meet you" and... that's about all, really. Don't expect much of anything from him. He's been doing about a half-dozen of these, minimum, every year, for the past 35+ years. He's signing 800+ autographs in an hour in rapid succession. Go in with that reality in your mind and you'll be alright. ;)

Today William Shatner was announced as a guest at the London Film & Comic Con this year, which will be held on July 17-18th. He'll be appearing both days, have talks and photo-ops.

Are you the guy on the LFCC forum who booked into EasyHotel? If so - my GF has just booked us in there too after your post.

I've thought of this already... tempted to mention TJ Hooker as I'm sure he'll be tired of all the Trek comments by the tie I see him.

I've also decided NOT to ask him about George Takei's wedding.
Damn right, that's me! ;) How many days are you staying?

Brilliant. I spotted a forum crossover

We'll be there Friday through to Monday. We're heading down from Glasgow, so we're going to have to get there early and leave the day after in order to stay sane on the journey.

We'll be there til' Monday as well, so that I can watch the talk, too.

He'll be late on the Sunday, won't arrive until 1. So you might want to stand in line early.

I think if I met Shatner at an autograph signing, I'd just say "I thought you were really good as Denny Crane. That other famous character you played, TJ Hooker, was OK. There was a third character I can't remember. Oh Well nice to meet you."

No surprise you'd forget the third one- it's Robert Wilson.

So, anyone else go to this con? Mr Shatner was in 'conveyor belt' autograph mode, and so you only met him for a matter of seconds, which I do resent somewhat but I also understand it - with 1000+ people wanting to see him, he either spends time with each one and many miss out or does it how he did and everyone gets to at least meet him.

Weren't allowed personal photos unless you went to the 'photo shoot' for even more money, so here's the man himself from a short distance :D

Don't look at him. Don't touch him. Do not make any quick movement or harsh noise.

And especially, don't rub his belly. Seriously. I'm not sure where you heard about it, but he doesn't like it. Trust me.

Speaking from personal experience are you?;)

Maybe I was one of the lucky ones then? He was very pleasant. He looked up at me, smiled and said hello. Later when he had signed my items I told him "Thank you very much", he replied "Thank you very much!"

Couldn't have hoped for a better experience of meeting Shatner, especially not after reading what other fans have experienced. The talk he had the day after was awesome as well, he was funny and filled with interesting trivia. I had the time of my life, an experience I'll never forget.
