So far we have seen much of Quinto as Spock. But as important as Spock is to this movie, it is Kirk who really has to come through. If the new so called 'fans' don't buy his character then this new movie series will have troubles...

Based on what little we have seen in terms of movie trailers, how well do you think Chris Pine will do?

Unlike most of the actors/characters we've seen and heard from in the various trailers, he hasn't put a foot wrong yet. I think he'll do just fine.

I've been very impressed with what I've seen of him so far. I feel like Chris Pine will be a name a lot of people will be familiar with in 5 years.

I had a chance to meet the young man about two years ago when he was filming some movie up in the mountains of San Bernardino. My daughter, 13 at the time, did meet him and fell in love..of course. So now she really wants to see Star Trek; which for her is a first!!!

How is he like?

Based solely on his head shot, I didn't really like him as Kirk. However, he looks great in the trailer, and on the panel interview with JJ and Co. I like his voice and his manner. I think he'll be perfect.

His exchange with Uhura really sells it for me. I think he'll do just fine.

The only thing that's bugging me is Quinto's voice. I miss the signature Spock gravel-y-ness.

I say he's nailed it. Moreover, by the looks of it, he nails someone in the movie too!

Ahem!!! this is a family show!!! I should smite you!

Rob

What's a "family show?" Trek, this thread, or this board. Please enlighten me and why you have jurisdiction over what I post.

Trek, the original, was never intended to be a family show ("the first adult space adventure") and only became such after it aired in the afternoons in syndication during the 70s and more so after the prudishness of ModTrek.

If it's this thread, then you should've indicated so in your OP.

If it's this board, then point me to the rule where it says that humor must be sanitary. And if such a rule exists than the lot of us that participate in the caption contests will have to jump ship!

I got your smite, right here, buddy.

I think he was just joking around.

As for the way Spock sounds, watch The Cage for context, or read the Spock should be constantly shouting thread. ;)

The movie is expected to carry a PG-13 rating, and I think Rob was kidding around.

 Ahem!! This is a family board!!! Etc., & sundry, u.s.w.... ;)

Oh, and everything I've seen so far tells me that Pine nailed it.

At first I thought he was a pretty good choice, it was admittedly tough to say though, but after seeing him in the trailers, especially in the new one where he deliver's that "So do I" line to Uhura, I'd say this was one hell of a casting.

Just from reading the transcripts of Trailer 3, myself and my friends all pretty much agreed that it comes down to one line: "Yeah. we do." If he can sell that line, and we can SEE Kirk the rebel become Captain James T. Kirk in that scene, he will have been well cast.

My friends have all now SEEN Trailer 3 and agree he nailed it dead on. I haven't seen Trailer 3 yet, but I trust my friends.

the more i see the better i feel./

i think i started to have hope with the still of him in the captain chair and greenwood to the side.

he just projected a younger kirk.

For me nobody will replace the Shat when it comes to Kirk but what I've seen of Pine I like and I'm really looking forward to watching his potrayal. I know he won't be mimicing Shatner but I hope he throws in the occasional Kirk mannerism or speech pattern for the fans.
