(Inspired by Crusher or Pulaski?) Of the three Enterprise doctors (one first a nurse), which is your favorite? Why?

(Asking here because TOS and SNW both feature 2/3 of the choices (and possibly McCoy next season)

For the purposes of this thread, "McCoy" is both Kelvin and prime McCoy.

For me, it's McCoy. I've had a lot of fun writing him sarcastic lines in fanfiction. I've liked sarcastic characters since I first saw The Emperor's New Groove.

Bones. He's one of the first Star-Trek-Doctors I've known, so, of course it's Pille. That being said: I also like M'Benga and Chapel. And if the possibility of "all three" would've been given, I'd definitely clicked "all three".

I wish we had gotten more of TOS M'Benga. He was such an abrupt surprise. No introduction, just here he is Ike he's always been there. I felt it added to the depth of the universe.

That said, McCoy is probably my pick as I'm most comfortable with him. More familiarity.

Chapel became a doctor so late in the run (TMP era) that I have no idea what her style is. I like how she was a nurse before becoming a doctor.

M'Benga.

If I were going in for an annual checkup to my country doctor, then Bones would be great. However, if I'm wounded in battle or suffering from some weird alien disease, I'm going to want M'Benga or Chapel (SNW version) treating me.

My brother would choose the original Chapel for purely aesthetic reasons.

M'Benga on TOS obviously has the edge in Vulcan know-how during the moments Vulcans lack the common sense to properly wake themselves up when talking. But classic McCoy still has prolific advantage over both M'Bengas despite his irritability.

McCoy. Great mix of personality, heart that you sense (instead of just reading dialogue intended to show how caring he or she is) and dedication to his profession, often innovating to find solutions to true medical mysteries of the Final Frontier. No other Star Trek medical officer is even close.

One small mini-strike against Bones: in DAY OF THE DOVE he got a brainwashed increase in his big-shot self-importance and decided to charge the Klingons in front of Spock!

Only in the third year, I guess.

Much as I've enjoyed seeing the development of M'Benga and Chapel in SNW, McCoy was my first favorite Trek character, and will always be one of my favorites, so he takes the prize easily for me. Also, I had a monstrous crush on him in my teens, which I cannot say of either M'Benga or Chapel.

My sci-fi doctor I like to feel this way about is not from TREK, but is from 1981, during my teens. Not a crush exactly, but a growing-on-me of sorts. There was a significant age difference. Had Mira Romaine been a doctor, she would have been a serious choice as well for me.

Well, Chapel is just a nurse and M'Penga wasn't a doctor from the beginning + seems to be marked by his past and the fate of his daugter. So my vote goes to McCoy.

who is this 1981 not Trek doctor of which you speak?
