Maybe Shatner Will be part of a "Surprise Ending"

Let me preface this post by saying this is just a theory, and I'm not even sure I think this myself, but...

...Maybe Abrams is going to pull a "M. Night Shyamalan"-style surprise ending, with Shatner appearing as Kirk, back from the dead. If those AICN rumors were right -- and this is about Old Spock dealing with altered timelines -- maybe at the end of the film, when Nimoy's Spock returns to the 24th century (?), he will find Shatner's Kirk alive and well, and living in a post-Geneartions 24th century (maybe in the new timeline he moved out of the way before the bridge crushed him on Veridian.)

Maybe this whole "Shatner isn't in this" saga is just a ruse and when we go to the theaters on Christmas 2008, we will be shocked and surprised to see Shatner make an appearance at the end. I suppose they could possibly film the "secret ending" with just Nimoy and Shatner and minimal film crew (to avoid too many people from knowing about it).

Like I said, I don't know if this (or a similar story) will happen -- or even if they could pull it off secretly -- but it could be really good if done correctly.

No, please please please waste no time in trying to get Shatner in there. He made a decision in 1994 to kill the character off. Nimoy knew it was a bad choice at the time and kept well away from the movie because he knew the script was poor, perhaps he even told Shatner it was a bad idea but ultimately Shatner couldn't resist the millions he was offered.

Yes we would all like to block Kirks death from our minds but it happened.....

If no Shatner means certain folks boycotting the movie then so be it, it'll make no difference. Besides I don't think any fan could simply choose to never see the film anyway, they would give in to the curiosity eventually, even if they just see it on TV years later :P

Sorry for the rant. ;)

Personally no I don't think there will be a suprise ending :)

Aw, c'mon. It's easy to bring back Kirk. As the adventure in the past winds down, Old Spock asks Young Kirk for a private word. He says, "Listen. You're going to meet a bald French guy who speaks with an English accent in a Nexus..." Spock leans closer and whispers. Buzz buzz buzz...

Later, Spock returns to his own time, to find Kirk waiting for him. Old Kirk smiles. "Thanks for the tip, old friend."

Fade out.

The end.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, yeah... oh yeah...

It would be tough to make it a real surprise and not have it leak, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried. Like the Enterprise-A at the end of IV? That was before the widespread use of the internet and I think only the NY Times blew that surprise in their review.

At the end of the film, Nimoy-as-Spock will be shown in Kirk's guest quarters aboard the Enterprise-D when the Shat will step out of the sonic shower and say, "Hi Spock! How's it going?!"

Shanter will play Kirk. He'll jump into his younger self's body from the future, Quantum Leap style. He'll look like Shatner to the audience and Chris Pline will only play him when he looks in a mirror. Spock will be an Al-style hologram. There will be absoultely no references to Scott Bakula though.

Who knows? There is quite a lot of secrecy surrounding this movie. Apparently not all the actors have even seen the script, yet. Quinto had only read parts of it. My guess is Nimoy is the only actor who's read it all.

I don't hink anyone officially associated with the movie has said they've totally given up trying to work Shatner in.

So if at the last minute they find a NEED or USE for Shatner as Kirk, I guess it could happen. What the heck? It pays to never say never.

Yeah, I've been dreaming of something like this too...

Don't really want Shatner back per se, but it would be nice to know that with all the timeline changes, there would be the possibility that Kirk survives Generations... If the Shat made a cameo in the last 2 minutes of the film - well that would make my Christmas 2008 a very merry one indeed!
:bolian:
Too bad that the kids on here don't understand why we would want this, but we've shelled out quite a number of weekday afternoons paying for it.

Keep the dream alive...

If Shatner doesn't play a Kirk-zombie in this film, I will be genuinely suprised.

Not only probably, but highly likely. I just hope I don't know about it until 12-25-08/ It will be a nice big helping of desert on top of my Christmas dinner...while the doubters feast on crow.
