Maybe Republicans Are Starting To Make A Comeback

Is this some sort of a joke?

Which bit of "Doesn't work" are you having particular trouble with?

It worked for me. What else do you want me to say.

For those who want to go back from the beginning, just do a search for

"Largest economy in 1890".

Prior to 1890, China was the world’s largest economy.

Your entire argument is that you aren't scared of China becoming #1 because we've been #1 forever and they've been #2 forever.

Told you.

In 1890, the U.S. had the largest economy while China was second.

Same as today.

Case closed.

And in 1889, assuming that CNN editorial piece is even accurate, China had the largest economy. The fact you imagine this supports your overly confident stance is quite funny.

That isn't my argument.

That lead is shrinking you know.

It should.

Expecting the U.S. to maintain the economic dominance it had in the two decades after World War II when most of the world was still rebuilding is ridiculous.

By the way.

What country has the largest economy now?

The United States

What country has the second largest economy now?

China

What country had the largest economy in 1890?

The United States

What country had the second largest economy in 1890?

China.

So I see little need to panic.

Emphasis mine.

My argument was that the future is not a straight line projection of the present and immediate past.

There is a saying

"China is the world power of the future.

And always has been".

It illustrates that people have been waving the "China banner" for a long time without the "China triumphs" prophecy coming about.

Yes, I'm sure it's just propaganda by capitalist interests within the Republican Party made to scare Americans into electing another Republican who will save us all from the godless commies...

But I'll admit to being more than a little suspicious of people who prattle on about privacy.

:wtf:

I travel a lot for work. The exercise has become a "papers, please" sham. I have to show a driver's license which is matched against my boarding pass. Why should the government care?

And before you say 9/11, all of the hijackers had valid boarding passes and IDs issued in their names.

A society that depends more and more on surveillance dragnets to supposedly protect us from the tewwowists rapidly becomes a society in which you have to prove your innocence. That is not a core value of this country.

Do you honestly believe that every single aspect of every person's life should be an open book to the government for no reason at all?

No.

The government should have reasons.
