maybe I'm crazy but...

My neighbor had an old 360. He heard that it overheats which is why the kids left it there. So he gave it to me. It's been sitting in my living room not plugged in. In fact I need to find a chord for the plug.

Ok so here is the strange thing. I just turned on my Windows XP machine in the same room. It gave a balloon note saying that it "detected" an XBox360.

Now is that possible

Are you sure it's your 360 it's detecting? Could be a neighbor's. In any case, it can connect via wifi, but without power I don't see how it could be yours.

Well, like I said, it can connect via wifi, so your Windows PC can easily detect it--if it's powered. If it's not powered (as in not plugged into the wall) then nothing short of magic should be making it appear to your Windows system.

That message should only pop up if your PC detected a 360 on your network. Even if you had the 360 physically wired into your network, I don't see how it would show up if there's no power.

If you have wifi, perhaps someone nearby was leeching off it with their 360. That's all I can think of.

EDIT: Too slow, it seems. ;)

If this truly is an old 360, they didn't have wi-fi built in, so even if it was powered on, it STILL shouldn't detect it.

Very odd, but I'm going with a neighbor coincidentally got a 360 at the same time.
