It almost seems to me that the Bynar script from the episode is meant to convey a longer string of bits into a single character. It seems like each figure is comprised of four positions for quarter circles, four positions for large dots, five positions for smaller dots an the option to connect adjacent figures with usually a thin line but sometimes a thick line or no line. If each of these positions represents a single bit, then there could be maybe 8 to 12 or more bits per single figure. Maybe more if the connective lines serve some mathematical (perhaps logarithmic?) function? Of course, they could just be their version of punctuation...
