Spoilers Maul - Shadow Lord Animated Series

What did Vader need to say?

Nothing. There's nothing going on that the audience needed to have clarified. The story is not even about Vader.

The character most affected, the one seeking answers and denied any, is Maul. Vader not answering the question that Maul asked of him leaves Maul having to piece together entirely on his own who Vader is. He doesn't get a lie, he doesn't get even a piece of the truth. Given "Twin Suns," we know that Maul isn't ever going to learn all there is to know about Vader or Luke. Vader saying anything to Maul could have opened doors that we know must stay closed.

Vader has been a shit talker from the start. Even when he is in his Tie Fighter during the end of ANH, he can't stop yapping to himself. Silent Vader is..... weird and not at all Vaderish.

Yes, but that's latter day Vader. Perhaps he grew into it? Perhaps right now he's fueled with too much hate to come up with any quips.

He could speak but what do you do season 2? This clearly won't be their last encounter. This was them feeling each other out. We will have plenty of them speaking in time.

Something to consider, Maul likely featured in Anakin's nightmares as a child. Now that as Vader he's effectively in a position to give his childhood boogeyman nightmares, he's going to want to come off as intimidating as possible. And Vader is certainly a master of silent intimidation tactics.

I maintain that even if James Earl Jones were still alive and available to provide voicework, they'd probably still leave Vader silent for this episode.

Damn, that's an excellent way of thinking about it. Turnaround is fair play. :D

Season was fun, that Master Daki would die was very predictable of course. I am not sure if I am going to continue the show with my favorite characters gone, Master Daki and Lawson( I don't think he is dead) but still
I've learned not to get upset when characters or actors I like leave a show, there have been plenty of times where the new characters or actors were just as good or better.
Nice seeing Vader doing his actual job for a change. I don’t know why he didn’t speak. The AI tech for James Earl Jones must have broken on the day.
The ending was alright but Devon falling to the cool side is a bit “been there done that”. Would be more interesting if she was manipulating Maul as well to try and get him to be more of a nice guy. Anyway I think that kid is going to be the key of keeping Devon on the right side.
I doubt they would have used AI for this if he did talk, they probably just figured it wasn't worth hiring an actor for the few phrases they need for Fortnite. I'm sure if he was going to talk in this they probably would have brought in Scott Lawrence or one of their other alternate Vader voice actors.
