"Masters of the Universe" Film in Development (Again)

Looks like fun. As a kid I was weirded out by the original film being so different than the show but I came to enjoy it. This is right in my wheelhouse.

To those in this topic saying this looks like it could be fun......

IT DOES LOOK LIKE THAT!!! :D :D :D I'm in. It's gonna be silly, and corny, and bad, and fun. Like the cartoon. So, it makes sense. Hell, part of me things this He-Man doesn't look insanely buff enough like a caricature. They should have gone even further.
Will I go watch it in cinema's? Maybe. But I've said the following before about many 'bad' movies and I will say it about this...
Am I looking forward to an evening with my favorite brand of chips/crisps, a few cold beers and this movie while sitting on my couch under a warm blanket? Hell fucking yeah!!!

I agree it looks fun and corny. I want it to be corny, though. I don't want it to be edgy or trying too hard to be overly serious. If not for the CGI, I'd say it looks like an older movie. My only fear at this point is that they might try to match Marvel, tone-wise. Although if there's a non-Marvel property that has a right to that, it's this one.

In the Power of Grayskull documentary, they talked about creating the toy line specifically for boys' fantasies. That they secretly had power that they could tap into, etc. With this movie, they're more-or-less targeting those same kids, now adult men with HR telling them what to do, people shaming them for their hobbies, being grown men in toy stores. Men who, for good reasons or not, feel powerless now in their adult lives.

The challenge here is riding that line between "simpler times" nostalgia as hinted at in the teaser-teaser without capitulating to the shittier aspects of why these guys feel this way. There will likely be a meta message in there about being a hero regardless of how you feel, not unlike how Barbie tackled its chosen messages.

But from a pure "who is this movie for" perspective, they have pretty much nailed it.

I'm not really familiar with the franchise, I know some of the basics, and I've been curious about it, so it looks like this could be a nice intro to the franchise for this newbie. It looks like silly fun, and I love silly fun.

I cannot believe that actually looks like it might be good! I was expecting the worst. I loved He-Man as a kid and the '80s movie is a huge childhood favorite, though I worry if I went back and watched it now as an adult it might tarnish my opinion of it.

Fortunately they covered Jared Leto up completely with CGI. We'll still have to hear his voice but it's something.

I think Skeletor looked a little 'wonky' in some of the brief scenes of movement of his head in the trailer. Hopefully that's something still being tweaked for the finished product.

Huh, I didn't initially recognize Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. Good choice though. :D As someone who grew up with the original MOTU, I'm a bit ambivalent at this point but definitely interested to see what will happen. :)

Jared Leto is a red flag. But otherwise, this looks so much better than what we got as kids.

Now, going back and rewatching the old show, I realize how bad it was. Much worse than other stuff I was watching the time. However, I still have my castle. The toys were made very well and held up very well.

There was a rebooted show in the early 2000s that is so much better. I think, both are available for streaming.

I am surprised that we're getting this film before a Thundercats one.

My oldest daughter loved He-Man as a child. I was doing the stay-at-home dad thing, and we'd watch it together. I learned to impersonate Skeletor and would do some of his funniest dialogue for her. He was actually a comic foil more than a villain.

The Filmation version was the best version. There's not a damn thing wrong with it.

I sent my daughter the trailer link this afternoon. She's delighted. "Adam Glenn" isn't exactly a deep cut, but it shows attention to the details.

Leto better do the damn VOICE! ;)

I am guessing that Orko is not in it for rights issues? (He-man characters have a mishmash of ownership depending if they appeared as a toy or cartoon first).
