"Masters of the Universe" Film in Development (Again)

That being said, by 79 she was back on TV as the star of the short-lived 240-Robert (kind of a CHiPs meets Emergency ripoff).

From the creative team of "CHiPs", that's why so similar. they even hried Mike Post & Pete Carpenter as the main series composer, who were hired for "CHiPs" (but were gone after two episodes and a rejected theme music cue that's never been released).

I am the right age that I could have been a huge fan He-Man as a kid. Same with Transformers and GI Joe. But never was. Though I remember it being everywhere. So I am not the audience for this at all. Though I recognize almost everything.

My first thought- they are trying to be so visually faithful it looks like a high budget tv commercial or theme park attraction. But high budget for the mid 90s! Skeletor in particular looks like character in 3D movie from the 90s. Like the Universal Studios Spider-man ride. Which worked because it was different time and expectations different for short ride film…

They've done a great job translating the visuals into live-action. I still don't like the growing-up-on-Earth part, though being sent there for safety by his mother makes sense in that Marlena is canonically from Earth. But the Earth-bits also were easily the worst part of the teaser, though I appreciate the Vikor reference.

That CGI is not good. Neither is the fight choreography of the (short) fight at the end.

I normally do not criticize cgi in trailers. Usually they are not finished yet and do not reflect actual film. But I strongly believe this was a stylistic choice. Everything in here has a very specific uniform look. The only thing that could change this is color correction and darkening the lighting… a lot to hide flaws and create some atmosphere. I guess if you want it to look like a 80s cartoon literally…

I loved the 1987 film, and the crossover to Earth was one of the big reasons for that, so that element getting reused in this new movie ought to make me feel excited; it doesn't, though.

Maybe that will change, but for now it feels like something's 'off' about the whole thing.

Sony is bringing the film to countries outside the US. Normally, it would have been released in theaters here too. But neither Sony nor the distributor has shared the film on their Turkish social media accounts. In fact, yesterday the distributor even shared a subtitled teaser on X, but they've deleted that too. It hasn't been shared on Sony Pictures France's accounts either. It's likely that, like other Amazon 'theatrical' films, it won't be released in theaters in Turkey and France, but will be released worldwide simultaneously on Prime Video. Turkey and France have laws that determine the time between a 'theatrical' release and streaming. It's 5 months in Turkey and 17 months in France.
