Mass Effect Legendary Edition

I replayed the first half or so of Mass Effect 1 a while ago, and wanted to get back into it. Alas, it seems that EA's latest launcher changes have made the game unplayable for the moment on Linux/Steam Deck. Hopefully they get that resolved soon...

If you have a PS4 or 5, it is currently nine dollars (US) on the PlayStation Store.

And Mass Effect Andromeda isn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, though that's likely more due to the fact that it's gotten patched with many improvements. But I like what it's trying to do and evolve the gameplay and universe forward while still retaining callbacks to the original trilogy.

I think, for me, the story didn't work in Andromeda because you weren't the first to explore it. Having all the Milky Way races there and in place removed a lot of what should have been a great exploration story.

See, to me, it did, because it added an extra layer to the story, hearing that there are others out there that have explored and staked their claims, and made the worlds generally richer with their own history. It's similar to the indigenous peoples and their stories and explorers from different continents finding out they weren't first. In this sense, it wouldn't have made sense for there not to have the milky way races not be there.

I did indeed cave and bought the legendary edition when it was on sale. Overall I've been really enjoying my time with it. I've finished playing ME1 and am a good way into ME2. To my surprise, I'm actually finding I like ME1 better than ME2, at least for the actual gameplay. I miss finding and customizing weapon loadouts and not having to worry about ammo counts. It didn't help that I decided to do a more biotic focused class this time, which I quickly realized I don't like as much as the raw gunplay. I'm definitely going back to just plain Soldier in ME3.

Yeah, see, I've found myself missing the exploration/questing aspect of the first game, which was closer to the usual bioware style rpg. Two and Three weren't bad, but they were different and made me miss and appreciate what the first had done more.

Thankfully, I feel like the style of the first game is back in spade with Andromeda.

I might suggest giving 'Sentinel' a try for ME3. Totally viable as a gunplay focused class, with the added benefit of being both very tanky, and having a very useful set of powers (warp & overload specifically) good at stripping down all three kinds of defence, all while setting up detonation combos for 'throw' in the process. A very underrated and fun class to play IMO.

I think in terms of pure gameplay, Sentinel ended up being my favorite class. Infiltrator was right up there too though (stealth and boom-headshot for the win).

I liked Infiltrator just fine, though I will say it makes the combat fairly repetitive since you're basically spamming the same move over and over (see also: Vanguard.)

With Sentinel the power-set is versatile enough that you have a lot of flexibility in how to deal with things from one encounter to the next. The only limiting factor is the weight/recharge time issue, but it's perfectly viable with an assault rifle and a pistol for back-up.
The Valkyrie AR is my favourite for this class with it's balance between damage, accuracy and burst fire, but Vindicator & Mattock are fine for early game, while the Lancer is hard to argue against in the late-game.

Note: this is all speaking from my vanilla ME3 experience and I never got around to playing the Legendary Edition, so I have no clue when the LE gives you access to the old pre-order/dlc weapons.

That's how I felt on my first playthrough, but on a second I liked it much more. I just wasn't expecting Andromeda's story to be what it is was... but that was kind of where it's brilliant. I was caught just as off guard as the in-game characters were. They were ALSO expecting to be the first to explore the new galaxy.

We are experiencing the shock of it all right along with them.

My biggest complain with Andromeda is that it didn't really have a conclusion, because it was supposed to have DLC/sequels that never materialized.

Leg Edition gives you everything, I believe. The only thing not in there is the ME1 DLC, but apparently it can be added back in via a mod.

I'm quite aware that all the content aside from 'Pinnacle Station' is in there; what I meant was that I don't know at what point in the ME3 quest-line you get access to certain weapons like the Valkyrie.
Some were originally a pre-order bonus, or exclusive in the Collector's Edition, and as such were just unlocked the moment you got onboard the Normandy. I gather the LE has integrated them into the various missions and unlock progression of the game more organically, and I just don't know specifically what can be acquired when. I could look it up of course, but there's no need. I was just pointing out that certain weapons choices may not be possible in LE's early game, compared to vanilla.

Yeah, this is why I ended up preferring the Sentinel overall, more varied than the consistent "Cloak->Aim->Shoot->repeat" mechanic with occasional biotic explosions.

It's been long enough I don't remember all the assault rifles, but I do think the Mattock was an early favorite.

Ah.

I played through this relatively recently, but for the life of me I can't recall. I'm fairly certain you have access to them from the get go.

I decided to take a break from LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, which I've been working on for a while now, and I started a new playthrough of the PS4 Tomb Raider reboot. I played it one and half times before. I was mainly replaying as a prep to read the first collection comic book follow up series, which I've had sitting on my Kindle/Comixology account unread for ages. I was a little disappointed to see that the rest of the comics are out of print and the e-books aren't available, and the physical versions is only available from third party sellers on Amazon.

Interesting sidenote. Not sure if it is in the TR comics but in Witchblade she is friends with Lara Croft. I don't think they made that connection in the TV show but it's in the comics for Witchblade

Oops, that was in the wrong thread. I thought this was the What Are You Playing thread.
