Mass Effect 2!

Honestly, I don't buy it (Shepard not being in the game).

And this better come out for the PS3 as well, I do not want to buy a 360 just for ME2.

Maybe, maybe not. One thing to consider is that an RPG protagonist has to build up from being not particularly competant and fighting weak foes... and that's harder to do, storyline-wise, with a character who supposedly already went through all these adventures and should, nominally, be entirely lethal, able to kick ass, take names, and chew bubble gum all at the same time. You start with a new persona because you're basically building up a new hero. (On the other had, if Reven or Sheppard are NPCs in the story you interact with, that's another matter.)

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Yeah, well, I just spent way more time than is healthy building up a character. I don't want to build up a new character, I want to continue to develop my current one. :p

I'm not all that worried about it. I highly doubt that Shepard will really be dead in ME2.

That's what I'm talking about. As far as I know, what you did in the previous game was supposed to have ramifications in this one. So, maybe the "Shepard is Dead" angle is just that... an angle.

Makes sense. They did the same with Darth Revan.
Except that was done by Obsidian, not BioWare. I suspect that if BioWare had developed KotOR 2, Revan would have stuck around.

I disagree. Bioware may not have originally disappeared Revan, but they certainly passed on the chance to bring him back. That says to me that they probably wouldn't have brought him back if they'd done KOTOR2.

Not a perfect comparison, though. Shepard would be far easier to carry over to a sequel than Revan. She came with a pre-made voice and personality. The player's dialogue choices only varied it by a little. So I guess the teaser could be a fake-out.

I have some doubts about the death of Shepard especially when compared with Revans disappearance. For a start none of the promotional material for KOTOR2 used Revan's absence as a plot point. This would suggest that the death of Shepard is a fairly big plot point so would imply s/he is in the game in some form or another.

Bioware also said several times about intending the player to be able to load his or her Shepard from ME1 into ME2. Then again the same was said about Neverwinter Nights being able to import your characters from Baldur's Gate 2 and it never came about.

Either way, Shepard or no Shepard, Mass Effect 2 just bumped Resident Evil 5 off the top of my most wanted game list.

This will be a find Shepard, the savior of the Alliance, and the only person in the known universe that can destroy the Reapers before it's too late story. If they do bring Shepard in from the get go, there will be some scaling issues starting from level 50. I hope they don't do a character reset by giving him memory loss or some other bullshit like that; KOTOR already had a character reset for it's story.

It will be interesting to see IF they stick to their guns and kill off Shepard; that would leave the Alliance is a pretty shitty position as they try to replace their "Rambo" type savior with someone else. I say, let Shepard stay perished, and bring in a bigger, badder, badass...and no, don't make it Shepards kid either.

I hope they don't make this exclusive to Xbox360...They really need to stop doing that exclusive bullshit already and release versions for all platforms; personally liked the PC version best.

Well given that I'm seeing that this game won't be ready for another 12 months, the teaser trailer is just salt in the wounds ;)

I think that Shepard's absence makes sense. These characters may be "Big Damn Heroes" but that doesn't make them invulnerable off-screen. In any case I'm eagerly awaiting this one. ME was one of the reasons I went to a 360 in the first place.

Why would you have to? It's coming out on both 360 and PC, as ME1 did. So whichever platform you played on before, you can continue the story on.

At this point it's only been announced for a multiplatform release, which certainly includes the 360 and PC, but the status of a possible PS3 version is unknown. Even though EA now owns Bioware it's possible they still have contacts with Microsoft making the Mass Effect trilogy a 360/PC exclusive.

Yeah, but ME1 for PC was released six months after the 360 version. I'd rather not wait. ;)
Indications are that this will be a simultaneous release--they actually announced it for PC ahead of time, for one. Besides, even if there is a PS3 port, and even if it were simultaneous with the 360 version and not the PC one, you'd still lose the ability to continue your game from ME1.

^ I can deal with that, I'd still rather play it on my PS3. The last game that I actually played on my PC was ME1. ;)

Dragon Age will be releasing on both the Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously (the PC version was delayed a few months for that reason, IIRC), so I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens with Mass Effect 2.

Dragon Age was delayed because they weren't happy with the state of the game, and wanted more time to work on it. That delay brought it pretty close to the 360 timeline anyways, so the decision was made to sync the two releases.

The release sync was effect, not cause. :)
