My guess is that you will play a new character who is sent to investigate Commander Shepard's fate and along the way you'll pick up some new companions as well as some of Shepard's old team before eventually finding Shepard him/herself.

This is what I see happening. Either that, or he ends up as your character's superior officer (ala Captain Anderson in ME1).

Is it me or was that robotthingyicantrememberwhattheyrecalled guy wearing shepherds armour? Perhaps he gets assimilated or some such by the aforementioned whoeverthehelltheyareasicantremember people.

I was going to say KoTOR2.

Aaaaaaaand Diablo 2, aaaaaaand Fallout 2. Your character being loosely connected and/or searching for/following in the footsteps of the character from the sequel is a reoccuring motif in RPGs. It's just a handy way of sending you through the leveling up process again.

Yeah. But KoTOR1 has the benefit of being a BioWare game.
