Mass Effect (1)

Having gone back and seen the new endings, don't finish the game without the DLC. Extended cut is so, so, so much better.

Allegedly, an EMS of 3,100 will get you the best possible ending, down from (I believe) 5,000
Either 4,000 or 5,000 depending on your conversations with the Illusive Man. I think 3,100 is enough now regardless of the conversations, though.

It's a huge download considering it's only cut scenes.
There's a lot of cut scenes, but more importantly there's a lot of prerendered cut scenes.

Also, they needed to reinclude all of the last three missions in order to make their insertions. I suspect, based on my understanding of how modern Unreal Engine maps are made (and ME2/ME3 in particular), that they also had to include all of the sound files (not just the new ones) in the DLC version of the maps, meaning that a lot of the 2 GB is actually duplicated content.

I welcome someone who knows more than me to tell me I'm wrong. ;)

Yeah, some of us were expecting more from the DLC considering the size of it. But for a free DLC, it's nothing to be sniffed at. It is an improvement, it's what probably should have been on the disc from the beginning were it not for time-constraints.

Cool. Just finished the Cronos station mission, that seemed like a point of no return. Now I'm on my way back to Earth. Now I just need to find a few more uninterrupted hours to experience the end.

I performed my first renegade trigger action of the series because I wanted that bastard Kai Lang to die. Fun times!

Ah, yes. Probably my favorite renegade interrupt. That, or "how about goodbye" from ME2. Kind of curious to see what you think of the final stretch.I genuinely hope you get more out of it than I did. The EC didn't do anything for me, but I seem to be a minority.

Actually Shepard stabs him regardless of if you use the interrupt or not, you just break his sword if you do the interrupt which is way cooler any way.

You mean you never punched the reporter? :p

I didn't punch her in ME1, punched her with glee in ME2, tried to resist the urge in ME3 (for the war assets) but just couldn't help myself.

Well I just finished my latest replay through of Mass Effect and tomorrow I will move on to Mass Effect 2. This is also the first play through I've done on my recently purchased PC which I'm using my TV as a monitor for so this is also the first time I've seen Mass Effect 1 on a TV. It looks pretty good.

Know what someone here should do for their next playthrough is Bipolar Crazy Shepard. Every time you're presented with options on the right side of the dialogue wheel, flip a coin. Heads, pick the upper right, tails pick the lower right. And do every interrupt that appears. :p

Nope, I didn't punch the reporter, though I seem to remember abruptly interrupting the interview.

I may have enough time tonight to at least get a little further. No idea how much is left exactly. I've been using the datapad app to get my Galactic Readiness up (it's about 75%) so I am over 5000 now. Wouldn't have been close if not for that, so I'm glad I did it.

My paragon Shepard didn't though thought about it in 2. I just verbally slapped her around some.

My general Shep went for it every time.

Still on the Normandy, but Anderson said he was in London so I'd guess that's where I'm going. Just out of curiosity how much longer game time do I have at this point? And how long are the (extended cut) credits? Just want to make sure that I have enough time to finish tonight. I probably have about 3 hours of free time.

You're pretty much close to the end. Should be no longer than 2 hours.

I'd say there's 2-2.5 hours left. It depends, there's a particularly tricky bit where you have to hold your position while the game sends everything it can at you (brutes, banshees, harvesters, Reaper beams) and that took me about six attempts first time through, so that added an extra half-hour or so for me. But three hours should be enough time to get to the end.

The extended cut adds about 10-15 minutes of extra content.

Ugh, I'm not looking forward to that part. Somehow I managed to make it through the 2 Brutes and a Banshee on my second try, but that was probably more luck than anything. I hate the Banshees, they are so difficult to get away from. My only hope is that they attach themselves to someone else so I can score some cheap hits.

That also reminds me that I had a hell of a time with that reaper on Thessia. I could not for the life of me figure out how that laser gun thing worked. Must have died a dozen times, usually within 15 seconds. Finally I figured out that once the blue horizontal lines closed in and touched, that would trigger the explosion, and that I had to do a well-timed roll to avoid the reaper beams.

I'm still of the opinion that the combat system in ME2 was superior to ME3.

I had a few problems with the Reaper orbital strike too. I'd either roll too soon or just not quite in time. Other than that, I'd have to say I'm not a fan of Banshees either.

They're not too bad in small numbers as you can get them to split their attention if you keep your team split. When there are a lot of them though, they can be more problematic especially on the higher difficulty levels.

It's been a while since I faced the Banshees in the single player, but in multiplayer I found things like Sentry Turrets and Combat Drones work wonders for distracting them, though I can't remember what class you said you were playing as, or if it still holds true in single player.

For me, it was as a soldier (Single player), so it was a case of adrenaline rush for me, warp or singularity for Li, and as many rounds down range as everyone could manage.
