Mary Lynn Rajskub as Janice Rand

I was looking for pictures of Janice Rand and I stumbled across one of 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub. Apparently someone out there thinks she'd make a good Janice Rand. Or maybe not. I didn't follow the link, I just saw her pic in the search. In any case, what do you think?

I don't see it. Rand is supposed to be kind of sweet yet boring. Mary Lynn Rajskub doesn't really play that.

Aside from the fact that I don't think we even remotely need this character in the movie, she's a little too quirky to play her I think.

No Rand in the movie? Who else is going to make coffee with a phaser? Who else is going to get Charlie's X all exited? Who is the Captain going to leer at when he's been hitting the Saurian brandy?

I don't think that actress would do Rand Justice...but no Rand at all? Yeesh.

Well, assuming that casting sheet that made the rumour rounds earlier is accurate (and I think that's probable) we'll be getting the Big Three, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov. Plus those much speculated Villain and Federation Captain.

There was no mention of Rand, which leads me to believe if she appears at all it'll be a brief cameo or a distinctly background role. And I doubt even that.

And nope, don't really see this woman as Rand anyway. Any photos available where she's not unpleasantly frowning?

I think she could play Rand, although she most likely won't.

I saw MaryLynn on letterman and she had buckets full of personality and she was even a little disgusting with her humour, I think Dave blushed?

Not that Yeoman isn't an important position, I do see it as the obligation of someone who is a junior officer and maybe 10 years younger than Kirk, who himself has always been regarded as a child been given too much responsibility.

That's a terribly picture of Grace.

I don't think we'll see Rand in the movie, so the point is probably moot. I don't think Mary Lynn Rajskub would play a bad Rand, simply because there's not a whole heck of a lot to the character to mess up.

I've never heard of her before, but physically, she looks the part.

I think she'd do a good job, Rand was a character I never have really been able to find all that interesting, I think Chloe could do the trick.

^ Yeah, I think Rand's only supposed to be about 20. Much as it's hard to admit, Mary Lynn's older than that. (She sure doesn't look it.)

If Chekov is going to be 18, the age of the actor, then Rand should be about 15. Too young for Kirk. Too young even for Chekov.
