Marvel's Most Wanted (Agents of SHIELD spin-off)

To be honest, I don't find most of the cast very interesting (to say the least). May shows some promise, and so do Fitz/Simmons, but (and it may be down to the actors - the others have exactly the same scripts to deal with), I find Coulson, Daisy, Ward and co. bland at best, more usually wooden.

Mockingbirds arrival was a breath of fresh air, even if she was acompanied by Hunter...

Could this just be like Agent Carter though, in that it wraps around the airing AoS somewhere?
If it were just a one-off series you wouldn't even need to have Bobbi & Lance leave the show really. Just a side story "adventures of..." type deal. Esp nice to have a big a Marvel charcter as Mockingbird be developed a bit more in the MCU

I'd love it if this were a summer replacement. We could have Agent Carter in the winter and Marvel's Most Wanted in the summer, and then we'd really have Marvel year-round.

I've been avoiding Agent Carter news as I intend to binge it once the whole season airs, but I heard its ratings are abysmal so it's almost certainly going to get cancelled.

To be honest - Mockingbird, Hunter and Mack are the three reasons I picked AoS back up after its abysmal first season. Now - apart from the fact that Nick Blood and Henry Simmons are great eye candy and Mockingbird is one of my favourite Marvel characters (though my dream casting was Hilarie Burton) - I think this show has some promise to the concept we've been given so far.

Hmm, I dunno... Burton's gorgeous, but as I recall from White Collar, she's a little frail-looking for a superhero. I guess she could work out and build up her strength, but still, Adrienne Palicki is just so marvelously tall and strong and statuesque -- she really looks the part.

Eh, too much to go into, and I don't want to derail the thread. Long story short, I hate how she was written, and find it nonsensical that Coulson didn't throw her and Mac out of his plane head first after they lead Gonzales in a take over of the real SHIELD. They're idiot moles for a fake SHIELD, and they add nothing to the show but making me question why Coulson wants untrustworthy a-holes on his team. Unfortunately it looks like Mac will be staying, but even just getting rid of Mockingbird will improve the show, and give screen time back to characters that deserve it.
Wow, you can really hold a grudge against a fictional character. I'd hate to think you must be like if someone pisses you off in real life.

Its not a grudge, I bring that stuff up to question why she's on the team from an in universe perspective. When it comes down to it, I think she's written horribly and keeps getting inserted into stupid roles just to give her more screen time (like when she suddenly had Simmons job for a few episodes even though there is no way the character was qualified for it). I mean, yeah, the whole thing about her betraying Coulson and then just being kept on the team ticks me off, obviously. I hate the character. If she hadn't been part of a conspiracy to take down the legitimate SHIELD, and she wasn't given more screen time and treated like as much of a focus character as Season 1 Skye, she'd probably be tolerable.

As it is, she was written badly, she's shoved into everything just to keep her on screen, and I legitimately hate the character more than any other recurring character in the Marvel Universe (well, every character who isn't on Jessica Jones at least, that show inspires another level of loathing). I really want Mockingbird's pilot to succeed, then I'll only have to see her on crossovers with AoS. Mockingbird and Mac are the only things holding AoS back right now, and with her gone, half the problem goes away.

I did read the premiere was down but that's almost always an expected result. I know there are exceptions. But AoS did that, then came back up some and is fairly consistent now. I did see where the episode 3 # was described as flat from the premiere so with no further dipping that's a good sign. It might even go back up a few more episodes in. Sometimes people play catch up on DVR and that gives a boost to L+3/L+7 number which networks also now are looking at. It seems premature to talk cancellation right out of the gate.

Why don't you think the character was qualified for it?

Because she's not "Doctor" Morse, and Simmons job is being a scientist? Sure, the comic Mockingbird was apparently a scientist (a fact that has basically been ignored the vast majority of the time since her creation, outside of maybe one or two mentions and one horrible story from a few years ago), but the AoS version isn't. Even if she has some unrevealed scientific background in AoS, it can't be enough to take over for Simmons when she was gone. Logically it should have been some tech we never taking over the biological scientific stuff from Simmons, but they wrote Mockingbird into that role to give her more screen time until they brought Simmons back. They might as well have made Hunter the substitute Simmons. It makes about as much sense, and at least he's a good character.

Even if her scientific background was below that of Simmons (and, let's face it, we know it is) - there's no reason she's unqualified to supervise the science department. Departmental supervisors don't need to be experts in multiple fields - they just need to know the aptitudes of their team and where best to use and direct them. Her scientific background just gave her the skills to recognise those aptitudes and be able to interpret the information they were giving her.

And her science/biology background is from the comics. Just because it wasn't mentioned in the previous season is entirely irrelevant. She didn't mention the name of her high school either, but I'm sure she graduated from one. This is entirely a non-issue for everyone except for you.

Plus it's common TV logic that you give roles like that to one of your mains when you can rather than creating a new character to fill a temporary plot niche. On nuBSG, this resulted in the "SuperStarbuck" effect.

It makes sense by TV logic, but that doesn't mean I can't call it BS  It doesn't really matter. Its not like I hate her because of that. I find it stupid, and stand by the fact that even Hunter would have made as much sense in the role, but its mostly a nitpick. If I didn't loathe the character, I'd forgive the lack of scientific training by the character and how its a blatant excuse to give her undeserved screen time. But, I do hate the character, so I didn't give it a pass.

What I like about adding Morse, Hunter, Mac et al. is that it gives the organization talent depth.

Why do you say that?

Because she did no science stuff before Simmons left, or even hinted that she was capable of it? Being a scientist is something that comes up in shows like this. She's a spy, not a scientist. I suppose they could retroactively say "Oh, she was a scientist, but switched to field agent because she likes beating people up more than she likes doing something she would have had to spend years in college to do", but they haven't even done that. They just put her in the lab with zero explanation, except that Simmons was gone and Mockingbird was too injured to go punch people, so she might as well take the job.
