Marvel's Most Wanted (Agents of SHIELD spin-off)

Well, up until now, all we've really gotten to know about Agents of SHIELD spin-off featuring Mockingbird and Lance Hunter is that the pilot was ordered.

Well, now we are getting casting information, which mean it's getting real. According to Deadline, Marvel has cast Delroy Lindo as Dominic Fortune. Fortune is an interesting character in the comics. I hope they do him justice. I wonder if he will be a supporting character or the "Most Wanted" in question. Honestly, with Fortune it could go either way.

I like Bobbi and Lance and think they have a lot of interesting chemistry. I'm on the fence on whether they can carry their own show, but will certainly miss them on Agents of SHIELD. If their show doesn't catch on, I hope they find their way back to AoS.

Love Bobbi and Hunter but I agree, do they really need their own show and can they carry it? I think they work really well as part of the AoS team... we'll see.

Cool news. I like Lindo and haven't seen him in a long time. Side note: I think Lindo would make a good Trek captain or admiral.
When I saw this new it made me think of Alex Simmon's Arron Day "Blackjack".

I wonder if Lindo's Fortune will be a contemporary character or be linked to Bobbi and Hunter somehow through the past? If that's the case, perhaps Fortune can run into Agent Carter at some point.

I pretty much agree with you guys when it comes to Bobbi and Hunter. I like the characters a lot on AoS, and I'm disappointed the show is going to lose them. They're cool characters as part of the bigger ensemble, but I do question if they'll be strong enough on their own to carry the show. I'd rather see them do another show unconnected to S.H.I.E.L.D. We already have AoS and Agent Carter for all of the spy stuff, so I think I'd rather see them go with something else, maybe something more straight superhero. Even the Netflix shows haven't really been full on superhero shows along the lines of the MCU movies, or The Flash. If The CW can give us The Flash and CBS can give us Supergirl on a weekly basis, then ABC should be able to give us something along those lines with a Marvel character.

While I like Lindo I think they are going to have to change Fortunes origin. To place the characters origins in the 1930s would not make sense. A black superhero in 1930s New York would not be realistic. I suspect they are going to make his origin starting in the 1970s or 1980s. A pity I would like to have seen the comic book 1930s style old man Dominic Fortune portrayed in TV.

I'll wait a bit on more details before I decide what I think about the show. I will say this about Dominic Fortune, though. I read the Mark Waid SHIELD issue with that character and my only thought throughout was "who the fuck is Dominic Fortune?" After the issue, I haven't reevaluated my point ;)

I disagree that a black hero in 1930s New York would not be realistic. One of the cool things about the Blackjack books I mentioned before was that at the end of some of them Mr. Simmons would have real life examples of black people and other people of color, and I believe even some whites, which helped illustrate that his characters and stories weren't as fantastical as we might be led, or misled to believe due to our deficient educational system and our-in general-weak grasp of history.

Beyond that though, within the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we're also dealing with a 'history' where there are super soldiers, where Hydra with sci-fi weapons supplanted the Nazi regime for the most part in World War 2, etc.

The idea of Golden Age black heroes/superheroes isn't an alien one.

Some examples I can think of:

Nightshade (90's Flash TV show)
Prince Lothar (Mandrake the Magician)
Revenant (Mystery Men series)
Black Marvel (Spider-Man: The Animated Series)
Azzuri (Black Panther in Flags of Our Fathers miniseries)
Isaiah Bradley (The Truth miniseries)
Prince Waku (Jungle Action)
Lion-Man (All Negro Comics)
Gabe Jones (Howling Commandos)
Jackie Johnson (Easy Company, Our Army At War series)

Granted Nightshade was operating in the '50s, I didn't remember that until I checked the wiki. Most were probably operating in the 40s, but for the most part I think the idea of Golden Age black heroes or superheroes isn't too far a stretch.

ITs still doubtful they will place Dominic in the 1930s and age him as slowly as the comic version. I suspect we will get a 1970s style Shaft hero and then we will see the older version in present times.

Pubert that very well might be the case. I'm not arguing that. The main point I did want to make is the idea of a Golden Age black hero/superhero isn't an impossibility or far fetched. I was just speculating if they would root Fortune in Marvel's history. There was an Avengers 1959 miniseries with Fortune-I read a bit of that. It could be interesting to see the cinematic universe toy with that idea perhaps on Agent Carter, just place it in the 40s. But it is not likely since Fortune will be on Marvel's Most Wanted. Unless he has access to that formula comics Nick Fury had, or perhaps some super soldier serum.

As for a Shaft-like character that might happen, though I wonder if they would use 80s flashbacks instead of 70s. Though if they went the Shaft route though I wish they would use James Geary, Luke Cage's dad instead of Fortune.

OP liked for having the foresight to create a thread title for an upcoming production that won't be laughably outdated for most of the time that the thread is in use.

Honestly, I hope the pilot succeeds, then Agents of SHIELD will improve a lot by not having Mockingbird on it. It sucks to lose Hunter, but if it means I no longer have to see Mockingbird on AoS, I'm all for it.

Curious. Why don't you like Mockingbird? I gave up on AoS, but Mockingbird was one of the saving graces. I quit the show but definitely not because of her.

That being said, I'm iffy on Most Wanted, despite the addition of Lindo, because I'm very iffy on Hunter. If it was a Mockingbird-led show where she's the solo star I might be more interested in it.

Ditto. I really like Mockingbird but I don't find Hunter to be very interesting.

Eh, too much to go into, and I don't want to derail the thread. Long story short, I hate how she was written, and find it nonsensical that Coulson didn't throw her and Mac out of his plane head first after they lead Gonzales in a take over of the real SHIELD. They're idiot moles for a fake SHIELD, and they add nothing to the show but making me question why Coulson wants untrustworthy a-holes on his team. Unfortunately it looks like Mac will be staying, but even just getting rid of Mockingbird will improve the show, and give screen time back to characters that deserve it.

Isn't untrustworthy a-hole a job requirement for SHIELD?

They all have secrets and the secrets seem to be more important than anyone individual's life at times. They are literally the "I would tell you but then I'd have to kill you people" Not the best company to keep.

Like others I'm a bit uncertain about spinning Bobbi & Lance off into another show.
Dominic Fortune is obscure enough that he could be recreated, though I'm sure somewhere out there he's got a niche fanbase. Delroy Lindo is a great actor though who I think should've been used in a higher profile role though. Bill Foster, Michael Collins, Adam Brashear(Blue Marvel) something more than Fortune. Him as Blue Marvel I really like cause then you could flashback w/crossovers in Agent Carter even. It also ties into his actual retconned comic origin anyway. Maybe having Lindo brings some gravitas to this production?

Other than the title "Most Wanted" do we have a synopsis for this show? Perhaps they are chasing down the foes freed from the Fridge(was that the name?) at the end of AoS season1?

This.
Characters ? In AoS ?

Coulson, May, Skye, Fitz, Simmons, the actual Agents of SHIELD that I tune in to watch. With Mockingbird gone, all of the ridiculous amount of screen time she gets (seriously, I think she may get more screen time at times then Skye got in Season 1) will go to the good characters. Well, the good characters and Mac, but still.
