Marvel planning Guardians of the Galaxy movie!

BTW, Groot talks in the comics, right? I'm hoping they didn't hire Vin Diesel because they liked his voice work in The Iron Giant.

Karen Gillan looks pretty cool in the half second they show her.

Immortalized in gif format to be seen over and over.

I approve! :techman:

Regarding the (astute) Firefly/Serenity comparisons... Director James Gunn has experience working with Nathan Fillion on "Slither" (which also starred Michael Rooker)... not to mention Gunn's own history with Troma... so I'm not at all surprised to see this level of humor, or that Star-Lord is similar to Malcolm Reynolds.

He's far closer to John Crichton, right down to being a kidnapped astronaut with a tape recorder and red jacket.

In fact, the whole trailer screams "Farscape," right down to the overall make-up of the group. Aeryn Sun = Gamora. Groot = Zhaan. D'argo = Drax. Rygel = Rocket (in stature at least).

I was enthusiastic about the project, about how twisted and funny it could be. However, I'm becoming less and less enamored with the idea as time goes on. It just seems to cheesy and asinine. I'll wait for whatever that Star Wars movie is gonna be called.

It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that you don't like it before actually giving it a chance.

They might both be plant-based but Groot doesn't really match up to Zhaan very well but I'll give you the rest.

That trailer was so awesome! :guffaw::guffaw:

Now i really enjoy the new breed of superhero movies we've been getting over the last 10+ years that really started with the first X-Men movie and spiralled from there.

Marvel made the right choices to tone down some of the more ridiculous aspects of the comics such as flashy costumes and took the material a bit more serious on top of getting A list actors to play roles (or in some cases such as RDJ made them A list again).

However superhero comics can be whacky fun too and some downright ridiculous but immensely enjoyable and Guardians seems to fit that mold.
Someone earlier said that in a movie that features a talking Tree and Racoon you have to go all in and it seems they did. If the trailer is any indication about the movies style i guess this one will be brilliant.

For every serious Captain America or Thor movie we need a Guardian movie with over the top characters, action and excessive humor to just blow our mind.

I so hope i don't get Prequel Star Wars trailer level burned because i want this to become the other side of superhero movies.. outlandish things happening in outlandish settings.

That settles it. We need a TV show of "GOTG" in the vein of Stargate SG-1

If Chris Pratt is available and Batisa we could have an awesome TV series

Grott can be a man in a suit

I love it in the comics when he forms that sentence as a question. Groot can say so much with just one line, and I hope that comes through in Vin Diesel's performance.

Oh, I'm sure Diesel will do fine in this regard. ;)

The line in Avengers, "The last time I was in New York, I sort of broke... Harlem." is a direct reference to TIH.

They mentioned Blonsky being in a jail cell in Alaska in a recent SHIELD episode as well.

And The Avengers prominently referenced the Super Soldier Serum as part of the Hulk's origin...that's very TIH-specific. They're definitely not disowning the film "canon"-wise, just marketing-wise.

Didn't the fight on the university grounds in TIH also appear on a TV screen in the background in another Marvel movie (possibly IM2)?

We see it on the monitors when Tony meets with Fury in IM2 and during the dossier Tony reviews after meeting with Coulson in "Avengers." I think Cap. also views video of the encounter as well.
