Marvel/Netflix Daredevil Season 1

As far as pilots go.. Gotham, while not perfect, was much better.

I couldn't disagree more. I was dead set against Gotham (not just because it's DC) but because the premise of an extremely elongated Batman prequel left me very cold. As it turned out it's a prequel to very little, introducing early versions of the big characters as if it really wants to be Smallville and in spite of having reasonably high production values, I'm only still watching because Jr. insists.

I loved the first episode of Daredevil. He's not a personal favourite character, but this worked. Dark and atmospheric, with good performances from a well cast set of actors.

I'd almost forgive Marvel for Agents of Shield. Almost...

Will a "hard R" Punisher also share the same universe as Hulk, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy?

And we'll have the Team up we deserve!

I've also now seen the first two episodes and i'm hooked.

I like the "realism" of it (as much as you can get real with Marvel Superhero shows), the dark tone and the actors in it.

The fight scenes are very good and well choreographed but with a glitch here and there (sometimes you can really see that the actor pulls a punch moviestyle and it doesn't connect with the target) and the main actor (i really suck at remembering names besides Debora Woll who i've adored on Tru Blood).

I think it's awesome that such shows exist on specialist channels because it allows them to be this dark and violent. While i really like Agents of Shield you would never see this type of grit on a mainstream channel but that's not bad.
I really like how Matt Murdoch is not the god of close combat.. he may seem like it but he is still a (supernaturally sensed) human who can and will bleed which makes him more relatable than superlevel heroes who have extraordinary equipment or powers.

I like mainstream Marvel for what it is.. flashy and fun movies but i also like that they are branching out into the "lesser" aspects and shine a light on the street level heroes who as interesting to see as the big ones if they are done right as this shows seems to do.

I haven't even seen Wilson Fisk yet and he is, from what i hear, pretty awesome (Vincent D'Onofrio is a very good actor) and there are some other characters set to appear who i also really like.

I've seen review numbers for nearly the entire season and i'm happy that they are universally quite high (high 8s and 9s out of 10 across the board) so i'm a happy camper.

Anyway.. off to watch episode 3.

Random thought - since Netflix tends to dump all the episodes of a single season at once, wouldn't it be more appropriate to use the term "volume" instead of "season"?

Given some of the scenes in Daredevil it's not that far removed...

Ok, the the American rating system often baffles me and I'm only three episodes in but wouldn't ep. 3 have to be considered R? Quite visually breaking an arm and then the head-fence scene?

I watched the first two episodes yesterday and I loved it. It has some pretty good action scenes. They aren't quite up to the level of stuff like Arrow, but they were still pretty impressive.
The cast and characters really likeable so far. My only other exposure to DD and his supporting cast is the movie, which I only saw once in theaters and don't remember, so I'm coming into this fairly fresh, but I really liked all of the characters. I was a little disappointed that we didn't see Fisk yet, but I knew they took their time revealing stuff here so I'm not to mad.
Was stuff in the hall at the end of episode 2 all one shot? I swear I didn't see a single edit during that whole scene.

Some of the cuts could have been hidden with the camera panning - just like the opening oner in Serenity.

Powered through all thirteen episodes and while the finale was good, the best episode of the bunch had to be the tenth. It was probably one of the best television episodes of the entire MCU.

Damn this show!

I have now seen up to episode 7 and it's nearly 3am .. i have stuff to do on Sunday but i so want to continue :scream:

Helluva show so far :mallory:

It was done with hidden cuts when the camera pivots. The changing look of the broken door gives it away.

Loved that sequence.

I just wanted to watch an episode or two. I said I'd pace myself. I hoped I could even limit it to one a week or maybe one a night.

Yeah, I watched it all. And it was awesome. Really, just fun throughout. Good fight scenes, good drama, good human moments, good characters. Maybe it loses a touch of steam at the end, but I thought it was strong from top to bottom.

Literally just finished it, and yeah - I freakin' LOVED it. I'm not sure where the line is or if there is just a single one, but the combination of tone/content/style and the sheer fact its an actual superhero for once made me love this show way more than both SHIELD AND Agent Carter.

That being said this is an entirely different beast to those shows, and although it did have the occasional reference to the larger MCU, everything about the DNA of this sets it apart in a way i'm not sure you could reconcile. Now thats not really a problem as its not gonna link into the Avengers or SHIELD anytime soon, but I was kinda hoping we'd see Stark Tower/Avengers tower in some of the skyline shots of New York. There weren't many, but due to the rarity I was hoping we'd see it and unless I missed it I don't think it was there. Not a huge deal, but it would've been a more organic integration perhaps. Anyway, thats nothing - the show itself was superb and I cannot wait for a season 2 (come on, there has to be right?!) AND the rest of the Defenders shows airing I think later in the year? In any case, I'm completely sold on the Netflix portion of the cinematic universe. I want more!

(Oh, and to echo RatBoy, episode 10 was a really great episode. But I still loved every one. - OH! And the way they used Kingpin? Fantastic )

Some Easter Eggs...

*The Greek girl that "things didn't work out" with in his college days was obviously Elektra.

*Senator Randolph Cherryh was a nod to Kingpin's puppet mayorial candidate from Frank Miller's run.

*The reference to "Van Lunt and his crackpot astrologer" was a reference to Cornelius van Lunt of the Zodiac cartel. Matt and Foggy's office space seems to have been a former Van Lunt holding.

*Melvin Potter's use of a table saw blade when he fought Matt, as well as the designs we see on Melvin's table when Matt picks up the red suit, are a nod to Potter's identity as The Gladiator in the comics.

My second biggest regret of the series is that we never saw Bob Gunton's Leland Owlsley gliding around slashing people with metal talons.

My biggest regret was...

...the offing of poor Ben Urich. Easily one of Marvel's best supporting characters, he could've provided a link between the various Netflix shows. Terrible waste of an awesome character.

It's like reading through a novel that's part of a larger series; you blast your way through to the end and lament that you have to wait a while for the next one.
