While it hasn't been officially confirmed, Deadline Hollywood reports that actor Mark Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Zodiac, The Brothers Bloom) has been cast as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Joss Whedon's The Avengers.
Marvel hasn't issued an official announcement but Marvel and executive Kevin Fiege worked hard this week to secure Ruffalo so they can present him on stage tomorrow alongside his new co-stars at the Marvel panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. Ruffalo will be joining director Joss Whedon and actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner (recently confirmed as Hawkeye) and presumably Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlet Johannson when Marvel presents Comic-Con with their panel for The Avengers.
Ruffalo replaces actor Edward Norton, who last month was fired after negotiations faltered between him, his agents and Marvel execs. Norton played Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk. Eric Bana played the character in the Ang Lee film.
